The Divorcee Who Shines novel Chapter 143

Chapter 143 Avoiding Him

Shannon looked pale and worried as she watched Brendon comfort her.

"I'll talk to her about this matter later on," he assured her gently. "Don't get upset; go back home and rest."

Brendon had called Ranita several times but got no answer from her phone.

During dinner time that day, he went back to her apartment only to find it empty - not a soul was there except for a note left by Ranita on the fridge: "I have some business out of town for two days. Take care of yourself."

Brendon frowned deeply as he sat down on the sofa with an uneasy feeling in his chest while continuing to call Ranita's phone.

But still no answer from Ranita.

She had just finished packing when Shannon came over earlier that morning with those words which pricked at Ranita's heart like thorns.

So she escaped up Moon Mountain where it was quiet enough for contemplation since it was a weekday - especially around the secluded villas where one could hear insects chirping away into the night sky...

It was peaceful there - perfect for deep thinking...

Moon Mountain was only an hour or so away from Kurima; it was one of the largest holiday resorts nearby situated against moonlit skies during daytime while offering tranquil coolness at nightfall...

Ranita sat on the balcony watching sunset before returning inside feeling dispirited once more.

Her phone rang again after she was lost in thought: there were over ten missed calls including Dylan's but mostly they were from Brendon who used to spend most of their time together even if they weren't physically together due to work commitments; occasionally they would call each other or communicate via email through Caleb who acted as their messenger most times...

This was probably the first time that Brendon had called so many times without getting any response from Ranita!

Did he want revenge because Shannon felt wronged? This vague suspicion made her heart ache horribly!

Just then... the phone rang again! It was Brendon calling once more!

Ranita hesitated before answering the call. A deep, unhappy voice of a man came through the receiver, "Ranita, where are you?"

"What's up?" Ranita lowered her eyes and spoke in a flat tone.
