The glare on the LCD screen made it hard for Nathan to see clearly. He craned his neck forward, "Dude, I can't see Chloe anymore."
"Go back to your wife."
Nathan rolled his eyes and adjusted his seat.
"What's so great about her?! I'd rather watch Chloe. She's way more interesting!"
Damon frowned, turning to give him a meaningful look.
Nathan quickly raised his hands, "Don't get me wrong! I've got nothing but respect and admiration for my sister-in-law!"
Damon's eyebrows relaxed a bit as he moved his laptop screen back into place.
Keira was totally blindsided by Chloe's sudden slap. Even now, she felt a bit dazed, only feeling a burning pain on her face. She even felt the slapped side of her face gradually swelling.
She panicked and quickly covered her face. Her eyes flashed maliciously at Chloe, full of hatred and madness under her delicate makeup. But given the current situation, she couldn't directly lunge at Chloe no matter how much she hated her. Her eyes blinked twice and tears started streaming down her face.
Chloe knew that Keira wouldn't expose herself in such a situation, but seeing her hypocritical expressions of pretense, accusation, grievance, delicacy, and affectation, Chloe couldn't help but sneer.
Even Lance, who wanted to protect her, stopped in his tracks when he heard Chloe's sneer.
The words Chloe said a few days ago in the hotel lobby lounge echoed in his mind. "My connection with Keira is too deep, the chance of 'accidental encounters' is too high. I don't want to see her play the victim..."
"Can't you stop hanging around me? You want to run into your husband’s arms for comfort after a bit of grievance here? Aren't you tired of this act?" Chloe had just said that.
He looked at Keira, her tears made people feel sympathy. But on second thought, this pitiful act was what he saw most from Keira.
"Why? Why do you always treat me like this?"
Nobody said a word, but Keira felt the gazes around her cut into her like knives. She couldn't bear the humiliation.
"Because I want justice for my younger, stressed-out self! You want to let it go? Hah..."
Chloe sneered, a flash of coldness in her eyes; her words were like fingernails scratching on metal, causing people to cringe—
"In your dreams!"
The crowd started to feel confused. This slap seemed to change things. Slapping someone in public, and someone she plagiarized from, with such confidence, candor, and arrogance, didn't seem like the behavior of someone with a guilty conscience.
Could there be another explanation?
Keira couldn't comprehend; Chloe's confidence terrified her. The atmosphere shifted subtly because of that slap.
Carolina gradually recovered from the shock. Seeing Keira's swollen cheek and tears, she stepped towards Chloe with determination in her eyes.
