The Indifferent Ex-Husband: Heartstrings in the Mall of Fate novel Chapter 422

Although Sophia tried to rationalize the situation, observing Brandon's tense and handsome face as he silently drove made her heart twinge with discomfort—an intense feeling of empathy and concern swelled within her.

"So, today," She couldn't help but start to explain in a soft voice to Brandon, who hadn't asked or said anything, "I went to the bidding meeting with Mr. Dempsey. I had seen the design plans for the Frost family at my brother's place, but I wasn't sure if they were authentic,  so I wanted to check it out in person. Mr. Dempsey happened to say he had an invitation and could take me with him, so we planned to go together."

At this, Brandon's hand, which had been on the steering wheel, paused. And he glanced over at her.

Sophia continued quietly, "I bumped into Ivan when I got there. He was representing his father's company for the bid. We chatted for a bit, and when it was time to go in, Mr. Dempsey hadn't arrived—he called to say he was stuck in traffic. So Ivan offered to take me inside with his team, and that's how I went with them. At the event, while I was getting a drink, the beverage cart behind me somehow lost control and came barreling toward me. I couldn't dodge in time and got splashed. Ivan lent me his jacket to cover up my wet clothes. I went to tidy up in the restroom, and he waited for me outside, which is why we came back together."

Brandon turned his head to look at her, "You weren’t not hurt, were you?"

Sophia shook her head, "No."

Brandon nodded, not saying much after that, but the tension on his face had noticeably eased.

By the time they got home, Theresa had already fallen asleep.

Sophia carried her out of the car, and as she was about to take her upstairs, Brandon got out too and reached out his hands.

"Let me do it."

His words overlapped with his action as he took Theresa into his arms.

Together, they brought Theresa back to the master bedroom. As Sophia fixed up the bed, Brandon carefully laid Theresa down and carefully covered her with a blanket.

Seeing how natural his movements were, Sophia didn't interfere but whispered, "I'll step out," and walked towards the door.

Just as she barely opened the door crack, a sudden hand reached from behind, pressing against the door.
