The Indifferent Ex-Husband: Heartstrings in the Mall of Fate novel Chapter 447

When Don called, Martin was chilling at home.

Louis had been through the wringer and it sucked the life right out of him. He seemed to just collapse. Waking up in the morning, he was all wilted and out of sorts, hardly any pep in his step, and his appetite had gone south too.

Martin was worried sick, so he hightailed it from the office to check on him.

"Don't fuss over me; just do your thing."

Louis was lounging in his chair, soaking up the sun with his eyes closed, and even talking seemed like too much effort.

Martin, still anxious, wanted to whisk him off to the hospital, but he wasn't having any of it.

"I'm fine, just a bit tuckered out. A little rest will do the trick, no need to make a fuss."

Martin didn't press the issue.

Finding Yolanda should've been a cause for celebration, but that paternity report felt like the last straw breaking the camel's back for Louis.

At the end of the day, it was probably Marian's true colors coming to light that turned all the high hopes for Yolanda into a big fat nothing.

"Speaking of which, is the project still on?" Louis asked weakly, "Better get cracking, who knows if this old bag of bones will last to see it finished."

"What are you on about, Grandpa?" Martin couldn't help but scold gently, "Of course you'll see it through."

Louis didn't respond, just slowly opened his eyes to watch Renata in the yard, fussing over her flowers like a young girl.

Martin glanced at Renata too. Grandma might be forgetful these days, but she looked to be in better shape than Louis; he wasn't too worried about her.

But Louis was another story. His gaze lingered with concern. Louis had shut his eyes again, perhaps resting or just plain worn out.

Without disturbing him, Martin carefully covered him with a blanket and then headed back to the study to ring up the project manager, checking on the progress.

Though he was the main man on this project, running the whole company, especially with the Marian drama, had left him a bit disheartened, so he'd taken his hands off the wheel for a bit.

"Mr. Crawley's word is that if the project goes on, we gotta use Starlight Group's construction crew to ensure quality." Came the diligent report from the other end of the phone. The project manager sounded hesitant adding, "But Mr. Crawley said it's gotta be you dealing with it personally; he doesn't trust anyone else."
