The Indifferent Ex-Husband: Heartstrings in the Mall of Fate novel Chapter 459

"Sure thing, just be safe, alright?"

Don nodded. This issue could be a big deal or a small fry, but it definitely needed someone with clout to handle it.

He had been swamped with work lately, couldn't even catch a break, so he had to send Sophia to scope things out first.

"Alright, I'll pack a bit, and head over in a jiffy."

Sophia said, bidding Don farewell, and went back to her office to delegate her tasks before heading home.

Theresa was also at home. Seeing Sophia return made her super happy. She immediately dropped her toy and scurried over, handing Sophia her slippers and peeking around her, looking for Brandon. Not seeing him, she couldn't help but ask with a puzzled frown, "Mommy, where's Daddy?"

"Daddy's still at work, he'll come home after," Sophia explained, squatting down in front of her. "I have to go on a business trip for a few days, so you will stay with Daddy at home, okay?"

"When will you be back, Mommy?" Theresa asked, her little face losing its initial joy and filling with longing.

Sophia's heart melted.

She leaned in for a tight hug and took a while to let go, whispering gently, "I don't know yet, but I promise, as soon as I can, I'll rush back to be with you, okay?"

That calmed Theresa right down, and she nodded. "Okay."

"Now, you be a good girl and listen to Daddy while I'm gone, deal?" Sophia asked.

Theresa nodded again. "Deal."

Sophia stroked her head lovingly before standing up to pack her bags.

She had booked a high-speed train ticket for two hours later; the situation was urgent and she couldn't afford to dilly-dally. After packing, she grabbed a cab to the train station.

As she got on the train, Sophia pulled out her phone and fired off a message to Brandon.

[I'll be away on a business trip for the next few days. Theresa's in your hands.]

After typing it, her finger hesitated for a moment before she finally hit "Send" and the message zoomed off to Brandon.

Brandon was in the middle of a work update with Kent when the message popped up. It caught his eye and he paused, getting lost in thought over the words.

Kent stopped talking and looked at Brandon with concern. "Mr. Crawley?"

Brandon glanced up. "Is there any project at Star·Dempsey Architects that requires traveling lately?"

"Not that I'm aware of," Kent replied, a bit unsure. "I haven't heard Don mention anything about a trip. He seems pretty chill these days."

Kent saw Brandon's brow furrow slightly, a thoughtful look on his face.
