Christopher exploded in a rage, furious. He kept cursing as he struggled to get to his feet. He reached for his crutches, ready to rush to the balcony to argue with Elaine.
Lady Wilson was just as irritated. However, she quickly stopped Christopher and advised, albeit in a grumpy tone, "Elaine’s already recovered from rock bottom. We can't afford to provoke her. You better not go out!"
Harold froze momentarily at that before sighing dejectedly, agreeing with his grandmother. "Yeah, Dad, didn't you hear from Wendy? Charlie was the one who helped her with her current job. Right now, our family relies on Wendy's income for support. If you offend Elaine, that means our livelihood will be in jeopardy again..."
Christopher's expression turned ugly. He said grimly," That's true, Charlie did help Wendy and us. He’s kind t o us. Considering that he's Elaine’s son-in-law, I'll forget about how she offended me before..."
Christopher paused, and soon, his fury returned. "But she’s shouting your mom's name now! Is she trying to humiliate me? Their home's not far from ours. Your grandma called the police when your mom stole her money and ran away with it. Elaine should know about this too. Isn't she angering us on purpose?"
Harold murmured gloomily, "That's true. But even if w e do know it, we can only pretend otherwise. 1 don’t want to go back to my old days of suffering and starving..."
Harold's words made Christopher fall into dejection. After a while, he waved his hand and dismissed Elaine's constant shouting with a long sigh. "Ah!
Forget it! I'll ignore her arrogance and treat her like a barking dog. I'm sure she’ll leave once she gets tired of it!"
Lady Wilson was proud of Christoper’s endurance and praised him. "Christopher, you’ve finally learnt from your lesson and improved! You suffered too little in the past and were naive, but now, you've finally know when to yield and when to fight!"
Meanwhile, Elaine was still shouting downstairs. When there was no response from the Wilson family, she grew annoyed and spat irritatedly, "That old woman, Christopher, and Harold must be hiding inside! They are all cowards! Why’s no one coming out to fight?"
Jacob shook his head. "Seems they don't dare to come out. We should go!"
"That won’t do!" Elaine snorted coldly, her tone firm." How can I leave now? If I leave, they’ll look down on m e!"
