The Return Of His Unrivaled Ex-Wife (Joanna) novel Chapter 768

Chapter 768

“Alright! Let’s wait until she wakes up before making a decision.”

“Okay, okay,” the doctor said and left the infirmary.

With a heavy heart, Bruce smoked two cigarettes outside the corridor.

His heart was in a mess.

Aria was so sick. If he returned to the country, there would really be no one to take care of her.

Although he could find the best caregiver for her, she must have someone guarding her when her condition worsened, and she needed to sign various surgical forms.

That was not something a caregiver could do.

He thought about it.

He decided to call Joanna and inform her of the current situation.

That was to prevent the misunderstanding between the two of them from worsening.

Beep, beep, beep.

He quickly called.

Due to the time difference, Joanna was in the wee hours of the morning.

The phone rang for a long time before she picked it up.

“Hey…”

Bruce’s deep voice came from the other end of the phone. “Joann, it’s me.”

Joanna was stunned and subconsciously wanted to hang up.

She didn’t want to come into contact with him, let alone say a word to him.

“Beep…”

The line went dead.

“Hey, hey…”

Beep, beep, beep.

Bruce dialed her number again.

This time, Joanna did not approach her phone again. Instead, she turned off her phone.

Bruce had no choice but to call Gael and ask Gael to hand the phone to Joanna.

After hanging up the phone, Joanna was still furious.

He had not contacted her for many days. Why would he suddenly contact her?

Ten minutes later.

Knock! Knock! There was a knock on the door.

“Madam, it’s Mr. Everett. Please answer it.”

“I’m not answering it. Just hang up on him.”

Outside the door, Gael was in a difficult position. He knocked on the door politely. “Madam, you should answer it!”

“If you don’t pick up the phone, you know Mr. Everett’s temper. I’m afraid he’ll call for the entire night.”

When Joanna heard that, she could only get out of bed angrily and open the door.

Indeed

A bastard like Bruce would not care about others’ feelings.

If he wanted to do something, he would definitely achieve his goal.

Crack! She opened the door.

“Pass me the phone.”

“Oh…” Gael quickly handed the phone to Joanna as if he had a hot potato in his hands.

“Bruce, why are you calling? It’s two o’clock in the morning. What is your problem?” Joanna took the phone and cursed at

the phone.

Bruce pondered for a few seconds on the other end of the line. After Joanna finished scolding, he said resignedly, “Joann, don’t hang up first.”

“I have something to tell you now.”

Joanna calmed down and replied coldly, “What is it? Tell me!”

Bruce paused for a moment before saying slowly, “Aria’s illness is very serious. It might be brain cancer. She has to undergo surgery now. I might need to take care of her…”

When Joanna heard that, she felt a tearing pain in her heart. Did he call her in the middle of the night to tell her he needed to take care of his first love?

“Bruce, what you want to do has nothing to do with me. There’s no need to call me.” Joanna was about to hang up again.

Bruce panicked and raised his voice. “Joann, don’t hang up yet.”

“I just want to ask you a question.”

Joanna sneered. “What question? Ask away!”

Bruce organized his thoughts. “If Jaydon had cancer and needed you to be by his side, what would you do?”

When Joanna heard that, her gaze darkened.

“What do you mean by that?”

“Did you do something to Jay again?”

“Bruce, I’m warning you. Do not target Jaydon again. Do not do anything despicable and sinister behind my back.”

Bruce’s heart ached when he heard that.

She still cared so much about Jaydon.

“Joann, I understand you now. I also understand your relationship with Jaydon.”

“As for me and Aria, it is like the friendship between you and Jaydon.”

“Can

you understand that?”

When Joanna heard her, her expression changed, and she was stunned.

Her relationship with Jaydon… was indeed quite similar to Bruce’s relationship with Aria.

If Jaydon had cancer and wanted her to be by his side, she would not hesitate to accompany him.

That had nothing to do with love.

It was purely out of kindness.

However, the many years of friendship between her and Jaydon had long surpassed love. It was not something ordinary people could compare to.

As for Bruce and Aria, they had not seen each other for so many years. They were so passionate about each other the moment they met, so she naturally could not accept it.

Bruce sighed deeply and still tried to persuade her. “Joann, I want you to think in my shoes.”

“If you were me, what would you do?”

“Before you answer that question, I want to tell you something. The person I love is you.”

“Aria and I are only friends. Even if I pity her or help her, it’s completely out of friendship.”

Joanna fell into deep thought.

Seeing that she was not angry, Bruce continued, “Just like when Jaydon was in a car accident, you did not hesitate to accompany him.”

“Back then, I could not understand what you were doing. Now, I can empathize with you.”

Joanna interrupted him. “Bruce, what do you mean by telling me this now?”

“What I mean is that Aria needs surgery now. She does not have other friends or family.”

“And I am her only friend…”

Joanna could not help but sneer when she heard that. She could tell what he was implying.

He just wanted to stay and take care of Aria, but he was afraid that she would be angry. He hoped that she would understand

him.

Still, she could not feel sympathy for Aria, let alone treat her as a friend.

Her view of Aria was just like how Bruce hated Jaydon.

She hated Aria as much as he hated Jaydon.

In the past, she had no choice but to accept Jaydon’s help.

However, it was different for Bruce and Aria.

Jaydon and Joanna were single before their relationship. Jaydon had the right to court her, and she had to right to date any

man.

However, Aria was different. She knew that Bruce had a lover, so she deliberately interfered.

Therefore, Joanna could not sympathize with Aria.
