Marth started to get anxious at the sight. He might be able to deal with Lourain if he decided to actually wager his life to fight the man, but he would need to pay for it with his life. Fane was different. With Fane's skills, dealing with a pest such as Lourain would be easy.
Marth's lips twitched before he hissed, "Get him, Fane! We can't let this guy off. Just listen to what he's saying. Once he gets out, he'll spread your secrets. It'll cause a lot of trouble after that.
"Your enemies will find you, and you'll have a lot of problems. It'll be too late by then. We need to deal with him right now to prevent that!"
Lourain gritted his teeth loudly as he said loudly, "Marth, listen here: even if Fane kills me, I'll make sure to drag you down with me. You won't get off so easily! I'll rip you apart!"
"Shut up right now!" shouted Fane. "Calm down, and listen to me!"
The two of them went silent at the same time as they looked at Fane curiously. Fane raised his voice and said seriously, "We've been tricked. Stop arguing!"
Hearing that, the two of them were even more confused. Tricked? By what?
Fane frowned and continued, "Have the two of you noticed that your actions are out of character? Marth, you hate Lourain a great deal, but you never started any trouble.
"Also, you'd never be so harsh with your words. You want to pass this and get into Violet City as well. Even if you have some things to say in your heart, you'd put them aside for the moment and wait for us to pass the Seven Deaths Array first. Right now, you don't care about anything, and you're just letting all your anger out!"
Fane's words woke Marth up. He realized that something was wrong as well. He felt like he was strangely temperamental. He wanted to remain equanimous, but there seemed to be a fire in his heart. The more he looked at Lourain, the angrier he got.
Lourain was more or less the same. He had always been hot-tempered, but he made sure to keep himself in check since Fane was there. However, after he was challenged by Marth, he seemed to have lost control. The anger and fire in his heart burned away his rationality. It was at a level where he did not even care if he lived or died.
Fane took a deep breath and looked around him. They were still surrounded by a violet light, and the place still seemed incredibly quiet. However, Fane could vaguely feel a murderous sense underneath the quiet.
Fane took another deep breath before he frowned and said, "The fire killing array activated the moment I took my seventh step. We're already deep into the array right now."
When Fane said that, the two of them were stunned. Marth said in confusion, "What? The killing array was activated? Why didn't anything change?"
Fane frowned and said, "What do you mean? The fire in our hearts was stirred up by the killing array. It was the fire of hatred, anger, and jealousy. The fire killing array isn't going against our skills, but our emotions!"
Fane's words exposed the key to the killing array. The two of them finally realized it as well. They exchanged a look of shock with each other, not expecting that to be the truth. The two of them were still struggling to suppress their anger and still hated each other.
They still wanted to vent their emotions.
Even Fane's emotions had been stirred by the array, let alone the two of them. Fane started to speak coldly.
