"Ms. Salotti, are you alright?"
At this moment, Izabella's vision was already blurred, and she was feeling weak all over. It took her quite a while to raise her eyes and look at the empty wine bottle on the table.
She had been drugged.
She had been on guard when she entered the room, knowing that she was a defenseless woman no matter how tough she appeared. She could be killed easily by anyone who wanted to hurt her.
But she hadn't expected that they would be shameless enough to drug her.
The wine bottle had been brought to her by the waiter when she entered. She had been watching her surroundings, and it was impossible for anyone to have drugged her under her watchful eye. It could only mean that the waiter had drugged the drink before bringing it in, and she had been deceived. She had fallen into their trap from the moment she stepped into the room.
There was movement behind her, and Izabella, feeling weak and helpless, turned around with the support of the coffee table.
Lucas, who had been lying on the ground just a moment ago, was now standing, having been untied by someone. He had his head down, glancing around the room but avoiding Izabella's gaze.
"You can go now."
Lucas bent his waist awkwardly, "Boss, I'll leave my sister to you guys. About the money I owe..."
"It's been cleared." Heckter waved to his henchman.
The man took a check out of his pocket. "Here's the ten million our boss promised you."
"Thank you, thank you." Lucas stiffly accepted the check.
"Alright, get lost." The man spoke to Lucas with disdain, thinking how useless he was to deceive his own sister in such a situation.
Lucas walked away, feeling remorseful. But thinking back to the kick Izabella gave him, he gritted his teeth and quickened his pace.
She no longer treated him as a brother, so why should he care about her life or death?
"Lucas!" Izabella used up all her strength, her spirit had begun to lapse, seeing everything in double vision. She shook her head and bit the tip of her tongue, and spoke with a shudder, "Brother, are you really going to leave me here all alone?"
Lucas's stopped, and he clenched his fist resting on his thigh.
He hadn't heard Izabella call him "brother" in a long time, and her voice was so vulnerable and shaky.
He remembered when Izabella was learning to talk, the first word she ever said was "brother."
Lucas held his abdomen and lowered his head, his ears starting to ring, as if there were two little people fighting inside his head.
