His face, originally pale and tense, eased up a bit upon seeing Izabella, who remained unconscious.

"Why hasn't she woken up yet?" Brett asked anxiously.

The doctor then explained, "Ms. Salotti has a sedative in her bloodstream and has experienced a significant shock. It's possible she won't regain consciousness until tomorrow."

Hearing "sedative," a chill ran up Brett's spine, his heart tightened and relaxed, and tightened again. He dared not think what would have happened to Izabella if he had been just a bit later.

Brett had not even had time to change his clothes, which were stained with blood. The doctor suggested, "Mr. Windham, why don't I look after Ms. Salotti while you go and change your clothes?"

Brett glanced at his clothes only then and noticed the bloodstains. "I'll have my assistant bring something over."
