"I had Jennifer throw away those meds of yours. You know what they say, every medicine is part poison, so it's best not to take them if you can help it."
Izabella saw the look on his face and knew he was pissed. But she didn't know where his anger came from or what she did to upset him this time.
All she wanted was her medicine. Even in this desperate situation, she still wanted to live. But Brett destroyed her last sliver of hope.
What did he want from her, anyway? It felt like she had been through enough, being pushed into one dirty mess after another by him, stepping straight into hell.
"Do you have anything else to say?" Brett asked her.
Izabella weakly shook her head, "No, it's fine. No more meds, and it's not like I'll die if I don't take them, right?"
She seemed to be talking to herself, but no matter how Brett listened, it just didn't sound right. It was like she really had some deadly illness and was about to die, and those meds were her lifeline.
Brett tried to shake those thoughts away. He wouldn't believe Izabella's words again. He was clear about whether she was sick or not.
In the end, Brett didn't order anyone to go to Quiet Forest Estates.
Liam somehow got ahold of Ryker's hair and was currently testing his DNA. Brett's mood was a lot calmer than before, busy with work and waiting for the test results. However, instead of getting the results, he received news.
Kaley had been kidnapped.
While working in his office, Brett received a text from an unknown number. It was a picture of Kaley, tied up with wounds all over her body. Her face was streaked with tears, eyes filled with terror.
Brett jumped up from his seat. Cold chills surged through his body, even his fingers trembling. He took a deep breath, his face turning a little pale.
He didn't immediately call the unknown number but called Kaley's phone first. The icy recorded message indicated that her phone had been switched off.
Brett then hurriedly dialed Trista's number. After a while, the call was answered. Brett hadn't breathed a sigh of relief when Trista's voice came through.
"President Windham, what can I do for you?"
Brett asked coldly, "Where's Kaley?"
Startled awake from her nap, Trista stuttered, "Ms. Cornett is at home."
Brett's gaze turned fierce, his voice low, "Put her on the phone."
Trista didn't dare to speak up, cold sweat dripping down her back. She had lied to Brett about Kaley's whereabouts. Kaley often went out recently and warned Trista not to tell Brett when she was away.
When Brett suddenly called to ask, Trista panicked and didn't know how to cover for Kaley.
"President Windham, Ms. Cornett isn't home. I was dozing off just now. She went out shopping this morning," Trista said nervously, swallowing hard. In fact, Kaley had left the day before and had been gone for 30 hours. Although it was a long time, it had happened before.
