Twisted Ties of Love novel Chapter 287

—"Brett, I've been living in hell for a long time now..."

"Izabella!" Brett yelled in fear, "Stop the car!"

The driver instinctively slammed the brakes, propelled forward due to inertia. He was startled and glanced back. The sealed car window was open unknowingly, the wind howling as if mourning.

Izabella knew she couldn't go back with him. Going back would be hell.

She could only save herself now.

Izabella had disappeared. Seeing Brett jump off the car, the driver regained his senses and got out of the car to check the situation.

Izabella felt as if all her internal organs had shifted from the fall, the pain in her leg was unbearable as if it was broken.

She didn't know where her coat had fallen. Her white sweater had rolled on the ground, revealing her skin which felt the searing pain of friction on the cement, her body burning all over.

Her body was trembling from the pain, even feeling pain was a luxury at this point.

But it didn't matter. She just wanted freedom now, to live with dignity.

The moment Brett saw the car charging towards Izabella, his body went cold and his breath hitched.

Brett rushed over, picked up Izabella, his face rubbing against her blood-stained cheek, feeling her weak breathing.

"Do you really want to escape?" In the strange gaze of the crowd, Brett held Izabella, his face pale and helpless like a child.

This is what Brett had always feared. Izabella would break down after regaining that part of her memory, then she would be like a living dead.

Nobody knows better than him how much Izabella loved Ryker, who saved her eighteen years ago.

He came into Izabella's life when she most needed help and warmth, lit a fire and warmed her for more than a decade.

That vague figure stayed in her heart for years, constantly beautified, letting her willingly love a man who endlessly hurt her.

He held Izabella back into the car and carefully wiped the blood from her cheek with the tissue handed over by the driver.

Izabella’s body was very cold, like ice. Fortunately, this happened on a crowded street. The car wasn't fast, Izabella rolled out with some injuries, looked severe but curable. Unlike the wound in her heart which couldn't be healed no matter what.

The car was full of heat, but Izabella's body kept trembling, both cold and painful.

He dared not hold her too tight for fear of hurting her. The driver went out and picked up the coat that had fallen on the roadside. Brett took it and gently covered Izabella. She was injured all over, Brett could only gently grasp her cold hand and slowly rub it.

"Go to the hospital."

Without needing Brett to remind, the driver conscientiously opened the navigation and headed towards the hospital. Both of them were injured, one with a hand wound, the other tumbled out of the car, not knowing where the blood came from.

Izabella didn't faint. The most painful part of her body were her legs, if she had to guess, they were probably broken. She found it amusing, why couldn't she just die given all this.

With her eyes closed, she endured the pain in silence, not wanting to see Brett's disgusted face.

Brett would never let go this time. In the instant Izabella fell, her eyes weren't filled with fear or panic, only relief and happiness. That look, even remembering it made Brett shiver.

He wiped the blood off Izabella's forehead with a damp tissue, murmuring with a hoarse voice: "I lied to you just because I love you too much, I'm afraid of you leaving me."

"I originally thought we could start over after your memory loss. I know I was wrong. I'm guilty. But I really don't want to lose you, I love you...I love you...Izabella don't leave me, I only have you..." Towards the end, Brett began to choke.

It seemed like he had just obtained a precious pearl, but before he could appreciate it, the pearl shattered in his hand. He desperately tried to piece the shards back together, but they never fit perfectly.

"I'm so stupid, to have made the same mistake twice..." Izabella murmured, her lips pale and trembling, her voice soft as if it would disperse with a light breeze.

"After losing her memory, Izabella fell in love with you again, but you killed her with your own hands..."

She didn't refer to herself as "I", but as "Izabella", as if she were narrating someone else's story.

Brett closed his eyes, various thoughts flooding his mind, all about how to make Izabella unable to leave him.

Izabella was taken to the hospital for examination, and indeed, both of her legs were broken.

Upon hearing the test results, Brett felt a pulsation in his temple.
