Her thin body was cold as frost, freezing to the bone. No matter how much he covered, he couldn't warm her up.
Brett was very nostalgic as he described Izabella's facial features.
Liam stood aside, the morgue itself was dark, and the icy temperature was scary as hell.
Now, seeing Brett talking to a corpse, Liam was so frightened, cold sweat breaking on his back.
This scene looked creepy, and Liam felt that Brett had lost his mind and suffered a mental breakdown.
Liam was faint-hearted, and he had never been so close to a corpse before. As he looked at Izabella, he didn't seem as scared as he had imagined.
He felt a little sad. Just two weeks ago, Izabella was perfectly fine, but now she had become an ice-cold body, just like the four-month-old baby taken from her belly.
Liam felt sorrowful with some guilt in his heart. His indifference was also instrumental in Izabella's death.
Brett had indeed lost his mind. His state now was like the Izabella before, who had a miscarriage thrown downstairs and ended up with schizophrenia.
One moment he said Izabella was just asleep, then said she was dead. He said that the person lying there was not Izabella and talked about him only having a nightmare where Izabella was dead. But if he woke up, she would wake up too.
The next second, Brett suddenly lifted his hand and bit hard. People said that in extreme pain, he could wake up from a nightmare. But why hadn't he woken up after biting his hand and drawing blood?
Tasting the salty, bloody taste and biting his hand until it bled, Brett still didn't stop. The tearing force seemed to want to bite right through his hand.
"President Windham!" Liam forcefully pulled at his hand. "What are you doing?"
"I dreamed she died. She died. I lost her." As he spoke, Brett raised his hand and slapped himself hard.
Liam felt choked up and said, his eyes reddened, "President Windham, your wife is really gone. She's dead."
After wiping away tears, he said hoarsely, "President Windham, when you asked me if you were good to your wife, I lied to you. You were terrible to her. You caused the death of her father, bankrupted the Salotti family, and confined her at home, robbing her of her freedom. Her stomach cancer is related to you.
“O
n the day her father was sentenced, you made her kneel in the heavy rain for half an hour while she was subjected to malicious slanders and humiliation from the media. You caused two miscarriages; she had multiple stomach cancer attacks and vomited blood, but you never believed her. Her becoming a vegetable was because of you, as well as her amnesia. Even her legs were crippled and burned alive in a room with closed windows and doors because of you.
She never owed you anything. It was always you who owed her."
Struck by lightning, Brett knew all too well about everything Liam said, but he just didn't want to admit it. Once he did, what could he possibly use to love Izabella?
He owed Izabella too much. Even if he gave his life, he couldn't make up for it. So, he would deceive himself over and over again, that everything he did was for Izabella.
Brett frowned, his face twisted like a beast trapped in a corner.
Liam quickly finished speaking, his throat dry and painful. He released Brett's hand, "President Windham, please let her go and let her rest in peace. She suffered in life because of you. Now she's dead, are you still going to torture her?"
