Very soon, one of his men came in.
“Take the ship back to Atlantis,” he said.
The man nodded courteously. “Yes, sir!”
Then, he stalked out of the cabin.
After the door closed, Christopher Lancelot shifted his gaze to Xyla Quest’s face again.
He lit a cigarette and took a deep drag. His eyes were rimmed with red.
Methodically, he blew the smoke into the cool air and turned away from Xyla, trying all his might to hold back his tears.
Mixed feelings flooded Xyla’s heart as she looked at his sorrowful back.
After calming himself down for a long time, he was finally willing to turn back to face Xyla. His eyes were still red as he stared at her face. “Xyla… Can you light a cigarette for me?”
Xyla guessed that Miranda must often lit cigarettes for him, which was also why he had requested her to do so.
Though lighting a cigarette was just a simple action in our daily life, it must have meant a lot to the two of them.
Xyla nodded and reached for the lighter on the bedside table.
He silently crushed the butt of the cigarette in his hand with his bare hand and went for a new one, handing it to Xyla.
Xyla took the cigarette from him and placed it on his lower lips gently.
Slowly opening his mouth, he held the cigarette between his lips before passing the lighter to Xyla.
Xyla lit the lighter unhurriedly and brought it closer to his mouth.
He subconsciously lowered his head so that the tip of the cigarette could reach the flame. He gradually inhaled, and the cigarette was lit in the very next second.
Xyla then clicked shut the cap of the lighter.
In the midst of the hazy air, Christopher could feel that the prickly feeling in his eyes only intensified with each puff he took at the cigarette. “Xyla, are you the only child in your family? Are you sure you don’t have a missing elder or younger sister?”
