Everly's heartbeat began to pick up its pace as she read the message.
She immediately looked up to check her surroundings. Seeing that there was no one around, she exhaled a sigh of relief. However, her heart was still racing, while her hand that held the phone was trembling uncontrollably.
"You can't betray Hera and Mrs. Jones!"
"I can always take back whatever I've given you!"
Wayne's reminder and Hera's words from before kept coming to mind. The voices argued endlessly, but there was no clear winner.
Everly tried her best to recall everything Hera had done for her, but she could not forget Bernard's handsome face.
At the same time, Everly heard sounds coming from the yard. She took a few steps forward and happened to see Bernard holding Hera's hand. They were happily chatting while walking out from the eastern wing, heading in the direction of the western wing.
The sight made her extremely jealous. Bernard only seemed to smile whenever he was with Hera. But Everly also wanted him to smile at her as well.
"Oh, Everly! Why are you standing behind the door? You frightened me." At that moment, Isla, who had just returned, walked through the door and jumped in fright upon seeing Everly.
Everly also came to her senses in shock. She put her phone away and casually replied, "I… I was about to go to the washroom."
Isla was slightly perplexed as she peered inside, "Is the washroom here not working?"
"Ah, yeah. Seems like it," Everly carelessly answered before noticing the formula in Isla's hands. "Is that a new formula?"
The mention of the formula distracted Isla right away, and she replied, "No. Are you done collecting the medicinal ingredients for the formula for the fourth patient, Emily Garcia?"
"Not yet. What's the matter?"
