Bernard's expression was cold. A storm seemed to brew in his eyes.
How dare Hera lie to him! How dare she come here in secret to meet Tyler, that lunatic of a man!
Bernard's gaze made Hera freeze, and she felt her legs turn to lead.
She never thought he'd come to Nightless Haven! And now, she was caught in the act.
Hera had no clue when Bernard arrived or how much of her conversation with Tyler he had listened to. But she could already feel the cold, suffocating air he gave off although they were a few feet apart. She would be blind not to know that he was mad at her.
If Tyler and Bernard got into a fight in a place like this, they'd become the talk of the town very soon. As she tried to think of how to explain herself to prevent Tyler and Bernard from throwing fists like before, she heard Bernard say, "Come here!"
The sentence was curt, and his voice was cold.
Tyler chose to be adamant and conceited at such a crucial moment by draping an arm over Hera's shoulders.
In a sly voice, he said, "Since you've seen us together, we don't have to hide anything from you anymore. Hera and I are a team now."
"Said who!" Hera immediately cleared the air as she got away from him.
Tyler didn't seem annoyed at what she said. With a smile as sly as his voice, he said, "You took the flash drive I gave you."
Hera could feel Bernard's cold gaze on the flash drive in her hand. She felt as though she was holding molten lead right now.
She had been tricked! She fell right into Tyler's trap!
People had enemies who made things tough for them. She, on the other hand, had a mentor who enjoyed making her life miserable.
Tyler wasn't going to stop at that. In a tone that could cause misunderstandings, he continued to say, "Since you don't know how to explain yourself, I'll explain it all to him in your stead."
"Shut up!" Hera hissed.
She had the urge to sew Tyler's mouth shut. She was already reaching up to cover his mouth with her hand so that he would stop spewing nonsense.
