Eric clammed up. Based on what Vincent said, it was obvious he knew quite a lot about the situation. Perhaps he even knew why Teresa had abruptly given up on her stall.
The image that Eric had tried to keep up for himself all along fell apart right in front of Vincent. Nevertheless, he couldn't afford to offend the man, so he chuckled awkwardly and said, "I forgot that privileged people like you, Mr. Lewis, won't understand the way common folks like us think."
Amid their conversation, Tiffany came out of the hospital room with a thermos in hand. It seemed like she had come out to get some hot water for Teresa.
Upon spotting Eric, she immediately put her guard up. "Why are you still here?"
"I'm leaving," Eric shot back. He couldn't be bothered to keep up with his act anymore. Disgruntled by Vincent's retorts, he walked off in a huff.
Tiffany turned to Vincent and said, "Thank you for giving me a ride, Mr. Lewis."
If he hadn't been with her, she most likely wouldn't have even been able to get onto the rooftop. Plus, for some reason, she felt more assured with him by her side. It was as though she had someone to rely on even if a crisis happened.
Without saying a word, Vincent took the thermos from her and walked toward the pantry. Briefly startled, Tiffany quickly followed after him.
By the time she got to the pantry, Vincent was already filling up the thermos. It was a simple action, but somehow, he looked good doing it.
She walked up to him and said, "I'll do it."
However, Vincent abruptly looked at her and asked, "Why are you resigning?"
His question caught Tiffany off-guard, and it took her a few seconds to process it. But in just those few seconds, the thermos filled up, the hot water threatening to spill over. Jolting in alarm, she reached out to stop the stream of hot water.
Alas, it was too late. Some of the hot water ended up splashing on Vincent's hand. Within seconds, his skin turned red.
"Run your hand under some cold water," Tiffany instructed as she took the thermos from him. When he didn't show any sign of moving, she got anxious and dragged him to the sink nearby.
