"Where are you, Jim?" she greeted in a sugary voice. "I've been awake for more than ten minutes now, so I'm not that scared anymore.

"If you haven't left the house yet, you don't have to come anymore, but if you're on your way, let me know so I can make you breakfast, okay?"

Charlotte's voice was as sweet and gentle as usual.
