Even if Luke truly did not like children, and Gwen had simply made this casual comment without meaning anything, could he not have respected Gwen's feelings on this?
He claimed to love and cherish Gwen above anything else, yet he was unwilling to show her basic respect in front of outsiders.
Not only that, but Gwen was pregnant with his child, for God's sake!
