Charity felt conflicted.
Eliza was selfish to commit suicide for the sake of a man. If Charity were not here, she could not imagine what kind of life Larissa would be living.
The most painful thing one could experience in their life was to watch their children die before them.
After Charity and Larissa arrived at the hospital, the director of the hospital personally took them for a check-up.
Charity felt guilty about it. “Director, you may carry on with your work. I’ve troubled you a lot today.”
“No worries. You’re the largest shareholder of Jewell Corporation, so technically speaking, you’re my boss.” The director’s surname was Ashby, and he was in his forties. He had a round face and was always smiling.
“Don’t say that. You’re a medical expert and an honorable doctor in the country, whereas I’m nothing but a money-grubbing businessperson.”
Director Ashby laughed out loud. “I seem to understand how you managed to make Chester become loyal to you.”
Charity smiled faintly, not wanting to bring up Chester and her affairs.
Director Ashby said, “In fact, I previously thought of you as the same as Cindy. Both of you were newbie actors, but my impression of you was much stronger than Cindy's. Although both of you were Chester’s girlfriends, Cindy would come to me randomly and ask me to perform surgery on some patients. Those patients were the connections she wanted to make in Canberra. Surgery has always been on a first-come, first-served basis, but she refused to queue. If I disagreed, she would use Chairman Jewell and his wife to oppress me. Sigh.”
“That really isn’t nice of her.” Charity frowned. “Some patients must be critically ill and desperate for surgery. Since she jumped the queue, it would affect other people, wouldn’t it?”
“Exactly.” Director Ashby sighed. “Besides that, some patients only needed minor surgery, which other doctors could perform, yet she insisted on having me do it. It was exhausting.”
