Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 313

Marguerite was shocked by his words.

For three long years, Maurice had kept her under his wing, providing her with all the luxuries she could ever want.

To everyone else, she depended on him, pampered and protected by him. But she never thought that he truly loved her.

The only tie that bound her to Maurice was their daughter, Teresa. If not for Teresa, who was his daughter, Marguerite would have gladly plunged a knife into his chest. How could this man, whom she despised with every fiber of her being, propose to her now?

Marguerite couldn't understand his motives, but she didn't bother trying to figure it out.

Maurice was a madman, and there was no reason behind the madness.

Shaking off her momentary daze, Marguerite looked at him with scorn.

"What? Now Frederick is back, so you want to use me to trip him up? Maurice, spare me your pretentious act. Thanks to you, Frederick now hates me to the core, wishing I would die. You think he's going to fall for your tricks now?”

Maurice walked up to her, reaching out to take her hand, “I want to marry you. It has nothing to do with him.”

Marguerite looked into his eyes, which were full of softness that seemed unfamiliar somehow.

Was he Maurice she knew?

A disturbing sensation filled her because his words were so cheesy that they gave her goosebumps.

"But I don't want to marry you." She pulled her hand away, brushing him off without a second thought.

But Maurice remained calm and smiled, “I'm not forcing you. I'll give you time to consider.”

As if she would waste a single minute on him.

Marguerite shot him a glance and asked coldly, "What do you want to see me about?”

Maurice realized that Marguerite was deliberately changing the subject, but he didn’t want to push her about their marriage. Anything was possible because they had Teresa. He had all the time in the world with Marguerite.

“There's an auction this afternoon. Teresa has her eye on a bracelet. I promised her I'd get it.”
