Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 664

Fred's heart softened at the sight of Marguerite, even though his mind screamed to push her away. His actions, however, defied his rational thoughts.

His strong arms gently wrapped around Marguerite's shoulders and waist, his chin resting on the top of her head, his voice warm and soft.

"Did they give you a hard time?"

Marguerite shook her head within his embrace, her voice muffled but clear: "No."

Her voice was hoarse, and he chose to stay silent, simply holding her close.

A passing officer, not quite catching the identities of the couple by the door, stepped out with a displeased look, ready to shoo them away. However, as he neared and caught sight of Fred's imposing demeanor, the words caught in his throat. Wisely, he quickly made himself scarce.

Marguerite wasn't sure how long they had been in each other's arms before she gently pulled away and softly said, "Let's go."

"Alright," Fred replied tenderly, guiding her towards the familiar Maybach parked nearby.

Before the driver could start the engine, Chuck's exhausted voice rushed through: "Marguerite, finally you're out. Mr. Winston and I have been waiting all day! If you hadn't come out soon, Mr. Winston was about ready to flip the police station upside down!"

Confused, Marguerite asked, "When did you guys get here?"

"Just a couple of minutes after the police took you," Chuck answered.

So, Fred was worried about her?
