After bidding farewell to Miley, Marguerite returned to the villa for breakfast, finding the dining room unusually crowded this morning. Besides Lisette, almost everyone had come down. The large dining room buzzed with an unexpected liveliness.
Powell's fractured leg was healing well, and he had traded his wheelchair for a cane. Jocelyn supported him as he took the head of the table. The Fitzgerald family's troubles were common knowledge among the household, yet everyone tacitly agreed to keep Hayes and Manley in the dark, avoiding the subject at breakfast. Instead, Powell hinted that he wanted Jocelyn to accompany him to the hospital later to visit Hackett. The Fitzgerald Group and the Winston Group were old family friends, and the Fitzgerald family's misfortune left everyone feeling uneasy. Thus, everyone focused on their meal, the room filled with nothing but the clinking of cutlery.
Frederick was the first to finish, elegantly wiping his mouth with a napkin before preparing to leave. Marguerite quickly put down her fork and knife to ask, "Are you heading to Poppy Petal Fragrances?"
Frederick nodded, "Yeah."
"Wait for me. I'll come with you."
Frederick glanced inadvertently at Maurice, who looked displeased, but Marguerite ignored it. She stood up, indifferent to Maurice's feelings, and left the dining room with Frederick. She knew Maurice was angry, but what did it matter? Since it was no secret that she worked with Frederick, there was no need for her to hide going to the company with him.
For several days, Robert and Miley had been assisting the police in the search for Penelope's body, to no avail. Marguerite sometimes visited the site of the incident, but with Poppy Petal Fragrances needing her attention, she spent most of her time at the company, busy with the development of a new product. It was not only her passion project but potentially the last product Penelope had worked on, and she couldn't take it lightly. Unsure of how else to honor Penelope, Marguerite dedicated herself to this task.
Since Penelope's disappearance, Yuna had neither returned to the company nor visited the Winston Mansion, likely staying at the hospital to care for Hackett. With Frederick juggling responsibilities at Poppy Petal Fragrances and Thunderbolt Enterprises, plus Maurice launching new initiatives, the company's operations increasingly relied on Marguerite. Overwhelmed by daily tasks, she wished for more hours in the day, yet still found herself stretched thin. Reluctantly, she decided to hire a new assistant.
She had hoped to rehire her former assistant from LuxeScents International, Hannah, but discovered Hannah had already found another position. Left with no choice, Marguerite posted a job listing. After interviewing several unsatisfactory candidates, she was about to give up when, on the last day of recruitment, she stumbled upon a neat resume. The applicant, a girl named Violet, appeared to be a typical Southern belle, beautiful with a lovely name. However, her lack of experience made Marguerite skeptical. Such a resume should have been filtered out in the initial selection process.
But since Violet had been invited for an interview, Marguerite decided to go through the motions. Expecting to ask a few cursory questions and then send her on her way, Marguerite was taken aback upon meeting Violet. The girl exuded an ethereal beauty, an innocence untouched by the world. What struck Marguerite most was the pale yellow scarf around Violet's neck, reminiscent of Penelope's style.
