The impatient honking from the cars behind snapped Frederick back to reality, prompting him to quickly maneuver his car to the curb. Turning to face Marguerite, his intense gaze seemed to be silently urging her for more explanations.

Marguerite's heart raced under his scrutiny. She knew deep down she really didn't have the right to bring this up with Frederick, especially considering their past and how her pregnancy with Maurice had been a catalyst in their fallout. Bringing it up now felt somewhat untimely.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have mentioned it, but it’s just been eating at me. Miley's all caught up with Penelope's drama, and I didn’t know who else to turn to or what to do."

Frederick gently wiped away the tear that had escaped Marguerite's eye, asking softly, "What's going on?"

With eyes brimming with distress, Marguerite took a deep breath to steady herself before spilling the beans about Daphne's identity and her conversation with her.

"I didn't pick up your call because it was just not the right time. Besides Maurice in the fire escape, there was this woman named Daphne. They were so close I initially thought she was someone Maurice was seeing on the side. But guess what, Daphne is Maurice's wife, and they’ve been married for five years!"

Frederick didn't seem surprised by the mention of Daphne’s name. After all, Miley had stumbled upon Maurice's financial trails which hinted at her existence. What truly shocked him was the fact Maurice was married.

"Are you sure Daphne is Maurice's wife?"

"Absolutely! She showed me their marriage certificate, complete with signatures and a serial number—all official! And when I was coming out to find you, I bumped into Daphne, and she’s the one who told me about Maurice's vasectomy."

Frederick's eyes darkened momentarily before he let out a scoff, "Seems like we really need to dig into his finances."
