Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 721

Maggie was floored. The woman standing before her, Violet, was miles away from the meek and tirelessly helpful assistant she knew. Her eyes sparkled with fierce determination, and despite her petite frame, she radiated immense power and presence. When she locked eyes with Yuna, her gaze was piercing, almost challenging. But what on earth was she doing at a graveyard? The way she spoke, it was as though she was here to seek justice for Penelope. But Violet had no connection to Penelope! What was going on? Maggie was utterly confused.

As Violet approached, the crowd's expressions varied greatly. She gave Maggie a slight nod in greeting before making a beeline towards Yuna. “Ms. Lockwood, cat got your tongue? Lost for words or just feeling guilty? Let me jog your memory. Why don't you tell us how you played a part in President Penelope’s demise, huh?”

Yuna's face turned ashen as she retorted with barely concealed panic, “Violet! Spreading lies comes with consequences! Don’t throw dirt on me! Have you no conscience, doing your boss’s dirty work? Is this Maggie’s doing? No wonder Freddie's guys forced me and my dad to come here. This is a trap you've all set up!”

Hackett, bewildered, finally gathered himself and approached, looking at Yuna. “What's going on?”

Yuna raised her voice, “Dad! Can't you see? Maggie is up to no good! If it wasn't for her calling Mom, would Mom have ended up like this? And then she has the nerve to go to the police for a 'statement.' She must’ve bribed them! Dad, she's trying to pin this on me!”

Hackett, blindly trusting his daughter, flew into a rage. “Maggie! Your heart is stone-cold! I've been more than fair by not pressing charges, but you couldn’t leave Penelope’s funeral alone. What do you want?” He then turned to Robert, pointing at Maggie, “Look at her! This is the sister you've been bending over backwards to welcome back into the family! And on the day of your mother’s funeral, she brings trouble! Your mother must be turning in her grave!”

Maggie was utterly lost for words, and Jocelyn frowned, whispering to Maggie, “Is that girl your assistant? Did you ask her to come?”

“No, Jocelyn, I’m just as confused as you are. I have no idea why she’s here.”

Indeed, Maggie had called for backup, but not Violet. She had reached out to Officer Abbey from the local precinct who was supposed to be waiting in plain clothes by the parking lot, not yet having made their entrance before Violet unexpectedly showed up.

At this moment, Violet had already made her way into the center of the gathering, her smile serene. “I am indeed Maggie’s assistant, but my presence here has nothing to do with her. I’m here for one simple reason – to expose the truth about you, Yuna!”

“My truth?” Yuna, fuming and frazzled, got up from the ground and pointed a finger almost into Violet’s eye. “Then go on, enlighten us! I’m dying to hear how you plan to spin your tales and manipulate everyone!”

Yuna, though nervous, was not intimidated by Violet’s accusations. After all, she was convinced Violet was in cahoots with Maggie. So whatever came out of her mouth had to be Maggie’s doing! But the specifics of what happened to Penelope were known only to her!

“Ms. Lockwood, today you’ll find out what it means to get exactly what you asked for!”
