Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 742

Maggie froze for a moment, suddenly realizing all eyes were on her. Instinctively, she began to panic:

"Should... should I wave at him?"

Fred chuckled softly, "Up to you."

"Don't leave it up to me! He doesn't understand English, does he?"

Just as the words left Maggie's lips, the king pointed his microphone in her direction and asked in heavily accented English:

"Lord, is this your girlfriend?"

Maggie blinked in confusion. "Who's he talking to?"

"You."

In an instant, Maggie's mind buzzed with noise.

Her cheeks flushed a ripe tomato red, both flustered and shy.

Being socially anxious, how could she face the gazes of everyone present?

Even though Maggie knew most of those looks were of congratulations and envy, she felt awkward all the same.

She clumsily tapped Fred on the shoulder, and understanding her discomfort, he gently helped her down from his shoulder.

Without another thought, Maggie took Fred's hand and started running out of the ballroom.

She was too embarrassed, too cramped!

And the man, not caring whether it was appropriate for the occasion or not, let her lead him away from the spot.

The moment they stepped outside, the king's laughter filled the air through the microphone:

"On behalf of the royal family, I extend the highest blessings to the Lord and his lady."

As his words faded, cheers erupted throughout the ballroom.

The noisy sounds grew distant, leaving only peace under the quiet night sky.

The intermittent brightness of the crystal chandeliers made Maggie squint a bit.

But her racing heart still couldn't calm down, her face puffing up slightly as if she'd been startled.

Gasping for air, hands on her knees, she looked up to see Fred in the same posture, looking back at her.

In an emotional whirlwind, she burst into laughter.

Truth be told, she was a bit happy.
