Margot blinked, her wide eyes darting from left to right, a guilty expression flashing across her face.
She quickly switched on her self-defense mode, bursting into uncontrollable laughter, leaving Manley and Hayes dumbfounded.
"What's gotten into Margot now? She's off on one of her tangents again!"
Had they somehow offended her without realizing?
But soon enough, Margot's laughter died down, her stomach aching from the fits of giggles. She turned to Hayes and Manley with an innocent look and asked, "Did your daddy get burned too?"
Hayes crossed his arms, pondering, his round eyes seemingly able to peer into one's soul.
He decided to tease Margot a bit and confidently declared, "Your daddy... he's just wearing a mask!"
"A mask?" Margot shook her head, her pigtails swaying. "What kind of mask? Like a superhero mask?"
Imagining herself as a superhero, Margot struck a dramatic pose, pretending she had the power to see through anything, baring her teeth and dramatically blinking.
Hayes and Manley exchanged looks, falling into a silent agreement.
They truly didn't know how to communicate with Margot on a normal level.
Sigh!
Hayes had hoped to tease her, but his antics seemed to have no effect on Margot's quirky behavior.
Manley gave Hayes a side glance, muttering, "I told you, you were wrong yesterday, but you wouldn't listen..."
Hayes was frustrated.
Why wouldn't Manley just believe what he said?
He was sure he'd seen Margot's father's face, and it wasn't burned at all!
He stubbornly believed that if Margot's father was his father, then Margot must be Teresa!
