Come back, My Ex-Wife novel Chapter 6

Standing alone in a corner, Sara mindlessly looked around the banquet hall filled with toasts and talks. Contempt and sarcasm flashed in her eyes.

Thompson approached her and stood by her side. He seemed to understand her mood. "Since you don't like it, you can numb yourself by getting drunk. Don’t you know that after just a few shots, those annoying people somehow become likable? It's amazing."

His gentlemanly manner and polished demeanor were his main qualities that women who were head over heels for him so deeply admired.

Sara considered his suggestion and thought that he was probably right. She nodded at him and grabbed a glass of wine. With a friendly smile on her face, she said lightly, "Cheers."

Thompson knew his way around girls and knew exactly how to give them a good time. After only a few minutes of chatting with him, Sara was in a better mood. The fiasco from earlier that night seemed to have slipped out of her mind.

"One more drink." Sara was already a little tipsy, but she still wanted to drink with him.

Suddenly, someone grabbed her wrist. Sara looked disapprovingly at the hand that gripped her. "What are you doing? Let go of me! Can't you see that I'm occupied?" She raised her glass and furrowed her eyebrows.

Jacob didn't let her say another word. He turned to Thompson and said, "Sorry to interrupt, Thompson. Please excuse me and Sara. We'll just go and greet

some people."

Jacob was angry, but he didn't let it show. He spoke to Thompson with a friendly smile on his face.

Thompson sensed that Sara was reluctant to leave. Although he usually avoided trouble and conflicts, he couldn't help but notice Sara's discomfort. Disregarding etiquette, he stretched out his hand, and said, "Come on! Don't trouble yourselves about them. They are not that important, are they? Don't mind the formalities!"

Jacob was caught off guard by Thompson's response. For a moment, he froze in shock. He looked at Thompson with a trace of suspicion in his eyes, and Thompson didn't avoid his gaze.

In the end, Jacob still left with Sara, leaving Thompson standing there alone. Thompson held the glass tightly, and his knuckles gradually turned white.

"What do you want? Let go of me!" Sara said fiercely. Jacob ignored her and dragged her into a guest room.

He finally released her arm and told her mockingly, "I asked you to attend the party as my wife, and not to embarrass me. Are you a social butterfly? Earlier tonight, you were caught up in an awkward situation with Jonathan, and now you are getting drunk with Thompson. Did you come with me today to seek revenge against me?"

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Rubbing her wrist which had been slightly bruised, Sara continued, "I already explained that to you. You just misunderstood the situation. As for Thompson, you know what kind of person he is, as he's your good friend. Besides, you know that I don't get along well with your hypocritical relatives. We have been together for four years, yet in your eyes, I am just a social butterfly. Is this the way you always regard me?"

She thought that they could understand each other even without having to speak out everything. She didn't expect that he would perceive her that way.

"A misunderstanding, you say? What kind of woman are you if you can't even wait for us to be publicly divorced before you start flirting with other men?" Before Jacob could say more, Sara stormed out of the room.

Jacob was dumbfounded. He didn't expect that Sara would ignore him the way she did. He tried to chase after her, but she had already left the banquet hall.

Everything that happened that night left him in a daze. For some reason, a place in his heart felt empty, yet he couldn't tell what it was that he needed to feel better.

Sara's life after she got divorced was not as boring as it was anymore.

She was busy with her own business and was ready to take over her father's company, but she had to start from mid-level management.

She worked hard because she didn't want to think too much about everything that had happened. She just wanted to devote herself to work and do her best for her father and the Yu clan.

Staring at the piles of paperwork on the table, Sara knew that it was not going to be easy learning about how to run the company. She had led a life of leisure. When she suddenly had to take over a company, she felt like she had no idea what to do.
