Bella let out a sigh of relief. She said, "As long as everything's okay... What happened with the car accident? Has Dominic told you anything? He won't tell me anything."
Ian hesitated for a moment before answering, "It seems like... someone was trying to set you up. While you were having dinner with Lia and Felix, someone tampered with your car, causing the brakes to fail. We're investigating it now. The person who did it disguised themselves well, and the security camera footage is old and blurry. So the chances of finding them aren't great. It's going to be a difficult investigation."
Bella felt a wave of fear. If Cara had been driving any faster, she might not have made it through the day.
Since this incident was directly related to her unborn child, Bella was certain that Dominic would get to the bottom of it. It was just a matter of time.
…
The following day, Dominic came to pick her up from the hospital. He remained cold and distant. He barely said anything and didn't even bother to glance at her.
Bella didn't have the energy to engage with him either. She slumped in the car seat, pale and drained, looking even thinner than before.
This time, Dominic didn't just drop her off at the neighborhood entrance but followed her up the stairs.
As they entered, Bella noticed the unfamiliar face greeting them at the door. She knew immediately that Dominic had replaced Cara. No matter what she said, it was useless. Dominic was the type of person who couldn't tolerate imperfection.
Ironically, the new maid had a similar name, Carla Lindell. She was just a few years younger than Cara and just as efficient. But there was a difference—Carla seemed robotic, focusing solely on the tasks at hand. She hardly ever smiled and came off as stern, lacking the warmth that Cara had.
