Every time Mia saw her, she'd douse her with wine.

"Didn't I make myself clear last time? You and my brother are from different worlds. How low can you go, huh? How much more does he have to cut you off before you get the message and back off?"

Upon hearing the words, Zoey felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her. She hadn't come to see Fitch this evening; in fact, she had no idea he was there.

Mia closed in, gripping Zoey's hair, ready to deliver a slap without hesitation. Zoey tried to dodge, but two burly bouncers pinned her shoulders from behind, holding her in place.

Mia's hand connected with her cheek, and not feeling satisfied with just one, she followed up with two more slaps.

Zoey's face swelled up quickly. This kind of scene was all too familiar, almost routine by now.

"If you know what's good for you, you'll get lost. Tonight's the first date between Wendy and my brother. If you dare do anything to mess it up, I swear, I'll skin you alive!"

As Mia's voice faded, her gaze drifted to the distance.

Zoey had intended to leave, but catching the change in Mia's expression from the corner of her eye, she knew Mia was up to no good, probably having found a new toy to torment.

Zoey followed Mia's gaze, her body tensing.

Because she saw her mother, whom she'd had a falling out with so severe that they were practically estranged. She'd thrown herself into her relationship with Fitch, finding a bit of breathing room, but now that Fitch had discarded her, standing before Mia, she felt utterly and completely humiliated.

Mia raised an eyebrow, eyeing Belinda.

"Isn't that your mom? What's she doing here? Don't tell me she's stooped to prostituting herself at her age?"

No sooner had she spoken than they saw Belinda accost a young woman, and tear at her hair like a madwoman.

Belinda was dressed in the uniform of a cleaning staff member, but now she was entwined with the young girl, who let out a piercing scream, throwing the place into chaos.

The smooth music stopped, and all eyes turned to Belinda as she clutched the girl's hair tightly.
