As Jeff recalled the scene he just saw, he responded hastily in shock, "I'll look her up right away...."

Ian tightly closed his lips and his eyebrows furrowed. He guessed that it was a trap. Leading him to look for her was probably the plan.

"No need."

If she planned this carefully, what had happened definitely would happen again.

Maja hurried back to her apartment, took a long shower, and then flopped onto her bed. Closing her eyes, her mind was filled with that man. At first, she couldn't adjust to his lustful and erotic action. Until later, the extreme fear pierced her bones.

Truth be told, her first time was with Ian. It wasn’t hard for her to accept this, except she had heard another woman's name from his mouth.

Carlene Shepard, Carlene...

This was the reason he wanted to divorce Maja.

Despite her extreme exhaustion, the pain in her body kept her awake.

Maja turned over and still felt uncomfortable. She got up and opened the drawer. Inside was their marriage certificate.

When they registered for marriage, Ian did not show up, but her dad found a way for her to complete the registration process alone.

This was the first time she had taken a serious look at this marriage certificate. After just one glance, she put the thing back and got ready to go see Tricia.

She drove to the hospital. It just so happened to be noon, and the nurses had gone to lunch.

Tricia, who was resting, looked up to see Maja. Her pale face was filled with surprise, and she sat up immediately.

"Maja, why are you here?"

She still looked a bit sickly, but her mood wasn't too bad. "Is dad worrying too much again? I already told him I'm fine, and specifically asked him not to tell you."

Maja sat by the bed and handed over a cup of warm water. "Dad is indeed very worried about you."

Tricia had been sick since childhood. When it was severe, she would pant after just a few steps and often needed to be hospitalized. For this reason, Neil was especially fond of her.

"I really hate being in the hospital. Mom is always by my side, and I can't eat anything I want." Tricia said pitifully, "These past few days, I've heard the nurses discussing a new fruit milkshake shop nearby, and I've been drooling about it."

She grabbed Maja's hand. "You're the best. I'm being discharged today, so a little taste wouldn’t hurt."

Tricia's eyes widened excitedly, like an innocent kitten. Maja couldn't refuse and went downstairs to buy a milkshake.

"You can only taste it, not swallow it." After reminding her repeatedly, Maja was about to feed her when Cristina’s voice came from the door.

"What are you doing?"

Cristina looked both surprised and angry as she strode over, snatched the drink from Maja's hand, and threw it in the nearby trash can. "Are you trying to kill your sister while I'm not here? I knew you were up to no good!"

Maja was pushed aside. She glanced at the milkshake in the trash can, finding it somewhat ironic.

"Did she feed you anything else? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"

While checking on her daughter, Cristina angrily wanted to call Neil to complain. But Tricia quickly stopped her, "Mom, you're misunderstood. I asked sister to buy it."

Cristina stopped paused, but didn't feel embarrassed. "Tricia doesn't know any better. You are her sister. Shouldn’t you know right from wrong?"

"Would your dad have ignored us for so long if it weren't for her? How could your health have gotten so bad?"

"Mom, stop it. Maya is busy with work and rarely comes over."

Cristina snorted and turned her gaze to the quiet, silent young woman.

As for this daughter born to her husband's ex-wife, she didn't care. But the girl still had some use to the Pennyfeather family. Thinking about this, she glanced at Maja's neck.

It was smooth and delicate, without any marks.

Cristina felt puzzled for a moment, wondering if her trick last night had worked.

She wouldn't have introduced Ian, such an excellent man, to Maja if she didn't expect the Raymond family to help them again. It's just that her own daughter had such a poor health.

Cristina was secretly annoyed and spoke in an even more unpleasant tone. "Ian has returned to the country now. You're his wife. Don't just think about yourself. Think of a way to get the Raymond family to help your dad."

Hearing her take it for granted, Maja laughed coldly. "You say it as if I haven't helped before. Is that what you think, or is that what Dad thinks too?"

Cristina was left speechless by the pointed question, and Tricia quickly intervened, "The doctor prescribed some medicine for me. Maja, could you help me get it?"

After leaving the ward, the sound of Cristina's scolding came from behind.

"Your dad has been good to her all these years. She has a problem with me. Her mom died from overworking, and at that time your dad was busy with his career. Life was hard. I guess she blames me for all that. Hmph, her mom just wasn't as lucky."

Maja frowned. She was still hurt from last night's incident, but she had held back from letting Cristina see it.

After queuing to get the medicine, she went to the gynecology department. She had a slight tear in her wound. After the female doctor examined her, her expression was particularly serious.

"Miss, do you need to report this to the police?"

Maja was taken aback, vaguely understanding what was meant. She said somewhat unnaturally, "Actually, it's my husband... he just returned from a business trip and lost control for a moment..."

The doctor saw her hesitation and seemed to understand what was going on. "Here's some ointment. Remember to apply it when you get home. Don't have intercourse for a while, and tell your husband to control himself. You're still young, don't let him ruin your body."

She had assumed Maja had encountered a bad guy.

Maja awkwardly took the ointment, her face turning a bit red. She had just come out of the gynecologist's office and had bumped into Tricia's brother, Glenn.

He looked up and saw the medicine in Maja's hand with a strange look in his eyes, "Maja, you're here to visit Tricia... Are you feeling unwell?"
