Maja had no idea how she made it through the night.

She lay on her bed, tears streaming down her face, soaking her pillow, and her body shaking non-stop.

She gripped the bed sheet tightly, her lips clamped shut, no sobs escaping.

Maria knocked on the door.

"Ms. Pennyfeather, I've made you some soup; you should have a bite."

Maria had no idea what had happened; she just noticed that Maja's complexion seemed off lately, like she was sleep-deprived.

Still laying on the bed, grinding her teeth, Maja pulled herself together upon hearing Maria's voice.

"I'm not hungry."

Assuming Maja was in a bad mood, Maria sighed, "I'll keep the soup warm; you can help yourself in the kitchen if you want."

"Fine."

Maja's throat ached. She lay there a while longer; the letter and the ring crossed her mind again.

Gently, she opened the box, reading the letter and crying.

The letter was soaked with tears in her hands, but she couldn't care less; her tears wouldn't stop flowing.

Crying herself out, she drifted into sleep.

At midnight, she woke with a sudden stomachache and ended up throwing up.

With her stomach causing her great pain, she shook out a stomach pill, chewed it, and then took melatonin before crawling back into bed.

Half asleep, her phone rang—a call from Carol Miller.

Carol was also at the hospital when Felix Brown's cousin's condition suddenly worsened, but she refused surgery.

Every surgery carried risks, particularly brain surgery, which was the riskiest of all.

She was afraid the operation would fail.

Although she was revived tonight, her mood was down.

Carol brought a bouquet of flowers to visit her and found out her name was Listina.

A beautiful name, and Listina herself was a beauty as well.

Carol, healthy and beautiful, was like a gem in the world. Seeing such a frail girl, she felt deep sympathy.
