Fated Mate novel Chapter 5

Fourteen years later

The members of the Redmoon pack mourned over the death of their Alpha; he had suddenly passed away in his sleep with no prior illness or disease.

Fredrick, to everyone's knowledge, was perfectly healthy and agile. He had even addressed his members the night before and nothing seemed to be wrong with him until they suddenly heard of his untimely death that apparently had no actual cause.

The sudden death of Frederick had hit Marco, his Beta, very hard as himself and Fredrick had discussed a very confidential subject the night before and Fredrick had entrusted him with the safety of the pack. A feeling of guilt had overwhelmed him for not realising that his previous conversation would be the last he ever had with his dear friend. Little did he know that it would be their last conversation and the final order he'd receive as the Beta of the pack.

Marco had lost his entire family at a really young age to the terrible hands of the silvermoon pack but fortunately for him, Frederick who was a few years older than he was, took him in as his friend, took care of him and even ended up making him his Beta and his right hand man. A favour he would forever be grateful for.

Kira stood still opposite her father's body. She kept staring at him wishing she could bring herself to break down in tears like she wanted to but she just couldn't do it.

Her knees felt numb and weak and every part of her wished she could bring herself to let out her tears like every other person but for someone like her, who grew up believing that crying and letting out your emotions was a weak thing to do, she could not bring herself to express her pain.

"Cry Kira, let it out." A voice within kept saying she should but she just couldn't.

She moved towards her father's corpse, hoping that the closer she got, the easier it would be for her to finally let herself cry. She took his cold hands in hers and a feeling of intense sadness shot through her, almost like the death of her father was only just hitting her as a reality.

She stared down at him and shut her eyes very quickly, taking in a deep breath and exhaling hard to control herself. She wished she could scream at herself but she couldn't do that in front of several people. She wished she could yell and curse at life for taking her father away from her without even giving her a chance to say goodbye to him.

"D...dad? W...wake up." She stuttered shakily. She knew he couldn't hear her, she knew he was gone but she still wanted to try. She didn't mind trying even harder. She thought, maybe, just maybe, the moon goddess would take pity on her and bring back her father so she doesn't have to live as an orphan at such an early stage in her life.

"You shouldn't have done this to me dad, you shouldn't have left me. You told me you'd never leave me with my permission, you promised you dad. You said you'd always protect me and be there for me. Why aren't you keeping any of your promises?" She muttered in a low tone as memories of her father's promises started to flood her mind.

"Kira dear, please take it easy." Her aunt, Layla says to her and she mentally scoffs.

"Should I take it easy? Really auntie? My father, your brother is lying down here cold and unresponsive from one day to the next and you expect me to take it easy? He was all I had auntie, he was everything to him and now he's gone. Just like that, he left me without even getting a chance to say goodbye to me and it's not fair aunt, it's really not. He deserved a much longer life and I deserved to have my father in my life for a much longer time." She said to her aunt, who was trying as much as she could to control herself from breaking down. Watching her niece break down this much broke her heart but unfortunately, she was helpless.

Two hefty looking men were mercilessly dragged in by Draco, Alpha Damien's best friend and right hand man.

Damien had become the Alpha of his pack at age twenty when his father, the late Alpha died of a heart problem. It was quite easy for him to adapt to his new role as the Alpha as he had been trained all his life on how to successfully lead the pack.

The two Draco had brought in were members of the Redmoon pack who had audaciously trespassed the Silvermoon pack territory.

Draco, who happened to be the Beta of the pack had his men protect each border of entry of the pack and that was how his men were able to get hold of the intruders.

Damien frowned deeply as soon as his eyes met with the intruders that Draco had brought in with him. He knew already by their scent what pack they belonged to and his blood boiled at the fact that they had the audacity to trespass into his territory knowing fully well what would happen if they got caught. It only showed just how nonchalant and dismissive the Red Moon pack is about just how powerful and dangerous their pack can be especially for their kind. He hated them even more for such disrespect.

"You should have just told your men to kill them off the minute they caught them, why would you bother letting them drag these good for nothing all the way here?" Damien asked, staring at both men in obvious disgust.

"For a good purpose, my dear friend." Draco replied, earning a confused look from Damien.

"What purpose could they possibly have?" He asked.

"Well, for starters, we could imprison them and then we'll torture them and make them tell us everything that's happening back in their pack. You and I know just how sneaky these bastards are and for them to actually send in two of their people to spy on us means that they are up to something and whatever it is won't be good. So I believe it's best we suck out enough information from these idiots and be prepared for the absolute worst." Draco explained.

Damien let out a heavy sigh. He understood Draco's point and knew exactly what he meant but deep down, he just wanted absolutely nothing to do with any member of the Redmoon pack. He detested them and preferred to stay away from knowing anything about them.

"You do have a point though. Those bastards really are the absolute worst and we should expect nothing less from them." Damien said as his memory flashed back to the time when he was attacked by one of them out of nowhere.
