Tobias had read the articles online about how Skylar had appeared distracted during the promotional activities for the movie. The media called her out for looking surly the entire time and being uncooperative.
He answered casually, “There's nothing the matter with me. It's just a light case of inflammation. Nothing major. Why do you look just like a woman whose husband just passed away? You're even crying.”
Skylar sniffled as she wiped away her tears with the back of her hand. When women fall sick, they become clingy with their other halves and exaggerate their illnesses on purpose. Men, on the other hand, like to act tough.
She touched his forehead. When she felt that his temperature seemed to have dropped a little, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank heavens! If something happened to you, I'd never be able to forgive myself.”
By then, it was already evening. Tobias threw back the covers. Without waiting to call for a nurse, he pulled the needle from the back of his hand. Skylar was shocked when she saw that. Isn't he being too rough with himself?
“Where are you going? Sheldon said you have to stay at the hospital to receive shots of antibiotics over the next few days. You'll only be discharged after the inflammation gets better.”
“I can't sleep when it's a different bed, let alone in a hospital. Don't listen to Sheldon's nonsense. It's nothing serious. I'm heading to the office now. I'll drop you off back home on the way,” came his reply.
She raised her arms to block his path. “You're not going anywhere. I've already dropped my work to come and find you, so can't you at least suck it up for a bit? Nothing will happen even if you don't go to the office for one day.”
Tobias lifted his hands and grasped her arms. His voice was low and hoarse as he said, “When did you start to nag so much? Something happened to your family, so I want to go and take care of it.”
Skylar's heart twisted as her thoughts flew to Harbourside. Miranda had called her several times in the past few days. However, she had not answered the calls. The same went for Penelope and Wesley's family. Anyone who had anything to do with Harbourside had been trying to reach her.
As she followed him, she saw his tall figure walk unsteadily. She reached out to hold his arm, but he made her let go.
She released his arm as though she had been electrocuted and looked into his dark eyes in puzzlement. “Why won't you let me hold you? Are you worried I'll embarrass you?”
