Skylar froze for a second, some unusual emotions brewing in her eyes. Peace suffused her. Back when she was at her most helpless, all she yearned was someone to take her hand and say, “Let's go home.”

Tobias lowered the volume of the TV. It's a good thing that she could not perform for Christmas Eve Special, considering her singing. Although it's merely lip-synching, her out-of-tune singing is really something else.

Just then, Tobias' phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID. In truth, it had been ringing incessantly since they returned home.

However, he did not answer a single call, loathed to exchange pleasantries and greetings.

He took out the envelope with the monetary gift from his suit pants and placed it in her right hand.

“My mom asked me to give this to you. It's a token from her. Since you've gotten it from her, I won't be giving you one.”
