Skylar quickly took a car to the hotel. On the way there, Penelope apologized profusely for her mistake.
Her remorse was palpable. Skylar carefully put on a nonchalant air and did not utter a single word of complaint about Penelope.
Till then, she still remembered Penelope's steadfast support during her darkest times.
She even tried to clear Penelope's blame by explaining, “Ordering a plane ticket is useless. I still have my identity card with me. No one can board that plane under my name.”
Only then did Penelope's lips curve into a small smile of relief. I don't know what I would do if Skylar said something nasty to me.
While counting her blessings about Skylar's kindness, Penelope chided herself on her incompetence.
Just look at Tobias' assistant. I'm nothing compared to her.
She believed she was only able to snag a job as Skylar's assistant because of their friendship. Penelope was a single mother with barely any academic qualifications, which would have disadvantaged her in the job market.
When they arrived at the hotel, Skylar quickly located her identity card and a phone charger, which had been packed together.
The color of the well-used cable had darkened over time, and Skylar mistakenly believed Tobias had wiped the cable for her.
She packed everything in her purse. Before she left, she suddenly heard the click-clacking of heels across the room's marble floor.
Skylar turned around, surprised to see Susan alone without Tobias.
Unlike her, Susan always seemed to exude an alluring aura.
