Kya slowly crawled onto Emily's lap, hugging her neck tightly. With a hint of worry in her voice, she asked, "Mum, is grandma being mean to you?"

Emily held her tightly, "It's okay. Mum's not scared of her."

"Mum, let's not go to grandma's house next time." Kya seemed to sense Emily's sadness, her voice full of sympathy.

Emily swallowed her tears and nodded slowly, "Okay."

The door suddenly swung open, and Estelle Macclain walked in, carrying grocery bags from the supermarket. Seeing them huddled together on the couch, she asked, "What's up?"

"Estelle!" Kya turned around, "Grandma's been mean to Mum!"

Estelle looked at Emily in surprise.

She walked over and sat beside them, asking, "Did you go to your mum's house today?"

"Mm-hm!" Emily nodded, giving her a brief rundown of what happened.

"What do you think of Martin?" Estelle asked.

"I feel nothing. You know my situation. I can't possibly get a boyfriend and get married."

"If your dad wasn't a factor and Martin was also willing to accept Kya, would you consider him?"

"No way!" Emily shook her head firmly, gripping Kya's little hand tightly. "If I get married and have kids, what will happen to Kya?"

Estelle whispered, "Since you've decided, don't fret over it! As for your mum, even though she's elder, you don't have to put up with everything. You've done more than enough for them!"

Emily bit her lip, "Yeah, I know. I won't compromise!"

"Then stop being upset!" Estelle laughed, "I bought steak. Let's make dinner together!"
