As soon as I stepped into the company, I heard the assistant saying, "Ms. Shears, Darren's assistant is here to invite you to dinner tonight."
Invited me to dinner tonight?
I stopped and looked at the assistant. He was ordering our receptionist to get him another cup of coffee. He looked very arrogant, as if he was the owner of the company.
I narrowed my eyes and said in a flat voice, "Go and find out if he has any other arrangements before the dinner."
Upon hearing this, the assistant explained, "Actually I already did. He's got an appointment with that gentleman you drove home last night... But..."
I knew what came after but Darren blew Benjamin off just to suck up to me.
I suddenly remembered that Benjamin said that he would pick me up at five o'clock. It turned out that he had guessed that he wouldn't need to go to the appointment at all.
When I passed by the reception, Darren's assistant got up and said politely, "Ms. Shears, Mr. Marks wants to invite you to dinner tonight. Can you give him that honor?"
His words were polite, but the way he said it made me feel disgusted.
I glanced at him and passed by. Then I heard the assistant behind him saying, "Unfortunately, Ms. Shears has an appointment tonight already."
The assistant paused for a while and then said, "An unchangeable one."
When my assistant rushed into the elevator, I smiled and praised, "Diego, you are quite good at this, for me and for him."
Diego explained, "I've never liked Darren, that's why I said that. According to what I've known about Darren, the next thing he does when he hears you rejected him is keep sending his men down here to invite you."
Diego was the secretary of Joel, and he was temporarily assigned to me. At this moment, I finally understood Joel's intentions. This was because Diego was a good assistant who could read almost all people's minds and knew how relationships should be worked the best.
I lowered my head and joked, "You are so considerate. When I return to City B, I can't bear to give you back to Joel."
Diego replied, "Just doing my job, Ms.
Shears."
After finishing the two documents in the office, I had a meeting and it was time to get off work. Or better, the time that Benjamin said he would come to pick me up. I sighed and took the documents with me as I left.
Benjamin drove my car in the morning, a black Bentley... I saw him leaning against the door from a distance, with a cigarette in his hand, and looking at me.
"When did you get here?" I asked as I walked over with the documents in my arms.
"About ten minutes ago." Benjamin put out his cigarette, took the document from my arms and put it in the back seat. Then he took my wrist and pushed me into the passenger seat. He slightly bent his waist and raised his eyebrows at me. He smiled and said, "Are we going home now?"
"Where else do you want to go?" I reached out to touch his lips gently and said with a chuckle, "We can go anywhere you want."
"Really? Don't regret that."
Benjamin closed the door. When the car passed Elysia, I did not remind him. But two hours later, when we were still on the road, I felt that things were a little complicated.
I looked at the dark sky outside the window and then looked at the muddy paths and snow. "Where are we going?" I asked.
Benjamin replied in a soft voice, "You said we can go anywhere I want. I'm carrying out my wife's orders."
"I'm not your wife yet, remember?" I smiled and reminded him. "You are at most my ex-husband now, just like..."
Benjamin asked faintly, "Like Steve?"
I said innocently, "I didn't say that."
"You wouldn't dare to." Benjamin snorted and said, "he is a complete jerk. He even beat you in front of that f*cking b*tch Charlotte. Have I ever done that?"
"Yes," I squinted and reminded him, "the night before the bidding, you threw me from the sofa to the ground. My waist hurt for a long time for that. My back would still hurt if I stand for too long now."
Benjamin swallowed and said after a while, "It is indeed my fault."
He paused and said, "No matter how angry I was that day, I shouldn't have hit you. What's more, you scratched my face all over that night, not to mention the teeth mark on my wrist." "Aren't you feeling a little bit petty?" Benjamin glared at me. After a while, he said coldly, "I just want to make you feel at least a little bit guilty."
