Benjamin asked where I was.
I told him the address.
"Stay there." He said that briefly and hung up the phone.
After I hung up the phone, I saw Sharon's expression abnormally depressed. She gazed at me and asked, "Was it him?"
I knew who he meant.
I nodded and Sharon said, "I've given this plenty of thoughts so I hope you do too."
After plenty of thoughts and that was the idea she came up with? Really?
Sharon took her bag and left. Before she left, I reminded her, "Don't forget to pay for the coffee before you leave."
Sharon glared at me with a very ugly face, but still resisted her temper and left.
And I drank a cup of hot coffee before I got up and went to the hospital.
At the front desk, I asked the nurse which floor Charlotte was on, and she pointed upstairs with a very bad attitude.
Upstairs? Where else could she be?
Basement?
Although I knew that nurses usually had such an attitude towards people, I was now in a depressed mood. I took out my police card from my bag and put it in front of her and asked, "Which floor is Charlotte?"
Her face changed, and she said in a much more polite tone: "Turn right at the end of the corridor on the third floor, do you need me to take you up there, officer?"
I shook my head and took the elevator up by myself.
My stepfather saw me as if he saw the lifesaver, he hurried a few steps to my side and said anxiously: "She's still in there for the operation."
I glanced at a row of benches outside the operating room. My mother was scrolling down on her phone indifferently, while Jeanie stared at her in a relentless attitude. Steve squatted at the door with a decadent expression on his face. Sharon pretended to be nervous.
Maybe she was not pretending but because she was nervous for a different reason. She didn't know what answer I would give her.
When they saw me coming, their expressions suddenly relaxed.
"Just wait here."
Well that was the only thing we could do anyway.
I went over to sit next to Jeanie, and she warned angrily: "Emma, I can help you with anything, but don't you think you are gonna get a penny from us, you and your mother."
I understood her, she was just a child.
I nodded and said, "My mother has money herself."
My mother immediately roared when she heard it, "Didn't you cut off your relationship with me? Why did you come here? Oh, my money. I'm glad you still know that is my money. You'd better steer clear of my business."
My mother...No, no, Julienne was not as good as Sharon, Sharon at least loved her son, but Julienne had no love or anything else towards me.
I looked at her coldly and Sharon interrupted and said: "Let's just wait for Charlotte to come out before we discuss the compensation. I'm thinking a hundred thousand might do it."
Sharon's words were pure to stimulate Julienne!
Julienne roared with red eyes: "A hundred thousand? Isn't that just wonderful for you, huh? In your dream, you f*cking nutcase!"
My stepfather couldn't stand it and reminded her: "Julienne, enough. They sue you or not, you are gonna pay the money either way. Might as well save yourself some trouble."
Feeling helpless with the current scene, I simply bowed my head and sent a text message to Bob, telling him what happened here.
He was on duty outside and said he would come in ten minutes.
Ten minutes, that meant he would be faster than Benjamin.
Rather than let Sharon call the police, I would sooner do it myself.
It was just that I didn't expect that ten minutes later, not only Bob came, but Zack was also with him, wearing a suit and tie.
Their arrival surprised everyone present. Zack first came to me and asked: "Officer Shears, are you okay?"
There was a hint of care in his indifferent tone.
I suddenly felt that he was not asking about my body but my mental state.
He cared about my emotions.
I shook my head, Julienne suddenly asked in shock: "You called the police!"
She used a positive tone so there was no need for me to explain anything.
Bob glanced at Julienne, pointed his finger, and asked uncertainly: "This is the driver?"
I was silent, and Bob did not embarrass me again.
They took Julienne away after investigating for a few minutes. Before leaving, Julienne cursed me again.
I closed my eyes, opened them again, and saw Zack standing upright. He gave me a firm look and left.
My embarrassment was bare and in the open for him to see.
But it was the most helpless thing.
After Julienne left, I said to my stepfather who was still in shock: "It's okay. Those were my colleagues. I asked them to take Julienne to the precinct to cool her down. Or she's gonna stay like that all the time."
What I thought was that instead of letting her do as she liked, it was better to send her to the police station and let her taste despair.
The uneasy, nervous, apprehensive, and fearful feelings of being locked up may change her a little bit.
