Benjamin explained in a cold tone, "It's too noisy in the city, and it'd be much more peaceful in the countryside. Besides, Jeanie will not be willing to let her be buried in the Channing ancestral tomb."
I leaned into his arms and agreed, "My granduncle could at least care of her in the countryside at least. If she is in the city... I am afraid that no one except my stepfather would ever remember her."
When her stepfather's feelings for her were gradually worn down by the passage of time, who would remember her in the end?
At night, Ben returned to Elysia and packed up my luggage. When I laid on the bed, lost in thoughts. Jeanie helped my stepfather come out of the ward. My stepfather was in low spirits and looked ten years older than before.
I quickly sat up straight and faced him. Seated beside my bed, he asked hoarsely, "Em, are you planning to send your mother back to the countryside?"
"Yes, where her tomb could be taken care of by my relatives." I thought for a while and said, "The process of my mother marrying you is very complicated. I don't think anyone else in the Channing family except you will let her be buried in the ancestral graves."
Julienne was a mistress who got involved in other people's family affairs. In the past, because of this, the Channing family broke off their relationship with my stepfather, and they had not contacted each other for so many years! If the two families made another fuss about the burial, it was not worth it at all. I would take Julienne home no matter what.
Back to where she really belonged.
My stepfather asked in a perturbed tone, "I will find a graveyard and a place to bury her, so can you let her stay by my side?" There was a bright light in his eyes.
He hoped that Julienne could stay in the city with him, even after she died.
Julienne was a blessed woman. She literally had the best life she could ever hope for as a greedy gold-digger, not to mention men that loved her.
However, it was a pity that she met Charlotte.
When two aggressive people met, both of them would be seriously injured. Julienne, on the other hand, was the one that lost the most. She had paid the price of her life. When I thought of Julienne's past and her current situation, I felt very sad.
Jeanie looked terrible because every penny taken out by her stepfather would've been hers later. I shook my head and explained, "We don't have any relatives in the city. Plus, rather than spending the money for the funeral, you can save it for Jeanie later."
There were still a ton of things that would require money in the future for Jeanie.
After turning his head to look at Jeanie's gloomy face, he sighed and said, "Alright, then. I put away your mother's valuable things in my bag, and you can take care of them for her in the future."
Then he took a black bag from Jeanie's hand and handed it to me. He then stood up and said, "I'll go and see her."
After he left, Jeanie sat beside me and said, "Emma, thank God you want to bury her in the country, otherwise my father will quarrel with me again! You don't think he really thinks I'd let him buy the grave for her, do you?"
Seeing her cold face, I kindly reminded her, "In the future, try to understand your father and don't piss him off all the time. Go to a good college and get yourself a decent life."
Jeanie's mouth twitched. "What's not decent about my life now?"
"Jeanie, you are still young, so no one asked you to take responsibility for your mistakes! But when you graduate from school and when you see what the real world is like, you will find that many people are more capable than you. If you still act the way you do now by then, there will be consequences, real ones." I told her earnestly.
"I know what you mean. You think I didn't see how Julienne shrank up when Charlotte caught up with her?" Jeanie smiled and said, "So I need to have the ability to protect myself! I won't let anything that happened to Julienne happen to me, and I won't let anyone treat me like Steve used to treat you!"
I looked at her sideways and asked, "And how are you going to do that?" Jeanie said indifferently, "Simple. I'm gonna apply for the Police Academy, like you did."
She didn't know that I got into the Academy because I passed the judicial exam and had a degree in psychology.
Being a policeman was not so glorious, at least so far I have got nothing but injuries, both mentally and physically. I thought about it and said, "If your grades are enough to reach the line of entrance, I suggest that you go to study law. Don't you think being a DA is much better than being a cop? You get to order cops all around you."
September had to collect some evidence for some dangerous cases, so often the police officers in the police station are around her.
Jeanie's eyes lit up and she asked, "Really?"
I nodded my head with certainty. Satisfied, Jeanie took her leave shortly after.
Later, Jeanie didn't manage to get into a good college but she didn't want to go to community college either. So she simply enlisted.
When Jeanie left, I opened the black bag and there were two valuable items and a bank card of Julienne in it.
I saw Julienne's name on the card. I called the bank and checked the account, there was literally over half a million on the card! Where'd she got the money?
Even if she took all the property of 01' Shears, it was no more than 150,000 at most. After all, his salary was pretty low, plus the monthly living expenses, it was a miracle that he saved so much money!
My stepfather couldn't have this much money either, so where the hell did she get the money from?
