I kept silent. Benjamin threw his towel aside casually, laid down on the bed, and asked me, "Why didn't you sleep?"
I answered, "I was waiting for you."
I wanted to wait for him to hold me in his arms.
Benjamin said in a low and magnetic voice, "I'll stay here with you."
I wrapped an arm around his sturdy waist and casually said, "I met Janse this afternoon. He called you Penta."
I paused for a moment, then said in confusion, "I heard many people calling you that, people familiar with you or not."
I knew Sean was quite familiar with him but not Janse.
I once asked Sean for the reason. Sean said that Benjamin had been outstanding since he was a child, so everyone started to call him by that name.
There was no special meaning to it.
"Do you want to know the reason?" Benjamin lowered his head and kissed me on the cheek. He rubbed the corner of my lips and frankly explained, "Your husband is quite famous in the underworld, so this title represents a kind of identity."
I looked up at him doubtfully. Benjamin narrowed his eyes and said, "Let me put it this way. When I was young, I was the bully in both my neighborhood and at school and my favorite soccer player's number is five. That's how I got the name and somehow it just stuck with me."
"What exactly do you mean by underworld?" I asked curiously.
"Fool, do you think every enterprise is a clean slate?" Benjamin softly smiled and explained, "Every big enterprise must have something dirty behind it, whether it is the Dunn family or... the Channings."
Did he mean Zack's family?
Benjamin's words renewed my views. He said flatly, "Em, you are too simple after all. Many things are not suitable for you to know."
That's all he said and I dared not ask anymore.
I lay in his arms with my eyes closed and breathed heavily, but my mind was in a mess.
In the morning, I woke up in the arms of Benjamin. When I opened my eyes, I saw that he was looking at me with his head down. His eyes were bright and shining.
I tilted my head and wiped the corners of my eyes. "When did you wake up?" I asked.
"A while. I've made breakfast."
Benjamin's palm rubbed my hair and told me, "Get up and wash up and have breakfast. I'll send you to the police station later."
"Yes, thank you, Mr. Dunn." I smiled.
"Silly, maybe I like it more when you call me honey."
I glanced at him and went into the bathroom.
After breakfast, Benjamin drove me to the police station. He said to me in the parking lot, "I'll leave the car to you, and I'll go back to the Dunn family later."
Benjamin was always on his way back to the Dunn family recently.
I could only see him in the evening.
I thought for a while and asked, "I haven't seen Ellis recently. Does the Dunn family not agree to let him see me?"
"Silly girl, what are you thinking about?" Benjamin flicked his finger on my forehead and said with a smile, "He's at school."
He said, "Ellis has to go back to the Dunn family to complete his mission after school... His grandfather has been teaching him calligraphy recently, so he doesn't have time to go out."
It was a lame excuse but I bought it.
After Benjamin left, I went to the procuratorate. September was sorting out some documents. When she saw me, she said, "I'll be on a mission later."
"Where are you going?" I asked curiously.
She explained, "The Heaney Group I heard that the old man of the Heaney family is not easy to deal with. I'm not even sure I'm gonna be able to meet him today."
I said, "Are you going alone? Do you want me to go with you?"
September shook her head. "Don't worry. The DA's coming with me. No, I should say I'm going with the DA..."
The DA was his superior.
"Be careful, then," I instructed. "Take care of yourself."
I was deeply concerned about her body. Her illness was quite serious, not to mention she had to carry that child in her belly around.
But I couldn't let her abort the child.
She's made up her mind about it already.
As soon as I left the procuratorate, I received a strange phone call. It was from City B. I picked it up and asked, "Who is this?"
A gentle voice said, "It's me, Kayla."
September mentioned that she gave my number to Kayla.
"Is there anything I can help you with?" I asked, frowning.
"Emma, can we meet up?"
The relationship between me and Kayla was neither good nor bad, but when I recalled it carefully, we did spend a lot of time together when we were at college.
When I arrived at the cafe, I saw her sitting in a corner. I stood in front of her and asked, "Have you been there all the time?"
She unconsciously stirred the coffee, as if she had been in a trance for a long time.
She looked at my belly in surprise and said with a smile, "I've been here since I called you... Are you pregnant?"
"Yeah, for four months." I sat opposite her and asked for a glass of water. Then I smiled and said, "How long has it been since we last met, six years?"
After my internship, I didn't see her again. And six years later, Kayla was haggard, as if he was too tormented by life.
