After having dinner with Sean, I dragged him to the shopping mall with me. He followed me very reluctantly. I asked him, "Sean, what toy does Ellis like?"
Sean gave me a sidelong glance. "Stepmother of the year, aren't you?."
I smiled and said to him, "Ellis is my son. Did none of them tell you about that?"
Sean's eyes widened in shock as he looked at me. Then, he pretended to be indifferent and said, "I don't love gossip. I don't want to know!"
He paused and asked, "Did you know Benjamin five years ago?"
So much for not loving gossip.
I told him a few more and he exclaimed, "So that's why he'd never been with anyone!"
I asked with a smile, "Didn't you say that there are a lot of girls around him?"
Sean smiled and said, "What I said was to make you angry!"
Sean's attitude towards me somehow changed drastically.
I used to think that we would never be friends. I didn't expect that we would have a closer relationship with each other now!
I rolled my eyes. Sean told me Ellis's hobbies and I bought a lot of toys for him.
When Benjamin returned home, he was very surprised. He used his slender fingers to pick out the toy train and tilted his head to ask me, "Do you think a boy like Ellis would like these things?"
I drank a glass of warm water and explained, "Sean said that he would like it."
"I'd say you guys are BFFs if I didn't know what you and he used to do to each other."
I smiled and said, "People change."
Sean had changed, and he was a rather good person.
Benjamin put down the toy, reached out to untie the button of his white shirt and asked, "Do you have time tomorrow afternoon?"
Puzzled, I asked, "Why?"
He said mysteriously, "I want some private time with you."
He reached out and held me in his arms, holding and kissing me. He felt that it was not enough and buried his head at my collarbone. He was just like... a puppy!
Although a puppy was not as large as him.
I was especially looking forward to the private time that Benjamin had mentioned, so I was thinking about it the whole time I was at work the next day.
Bob saw the joy on my face and asked, "What are you grinning like a fool about?"
I smiled and said, "Secret."
Zack sent someone to call me to his office at noon. At that time, my heart thumped. Was he angry because of what I told Laurelie?
He probably didn't like it.
Especially it meant that I pushed him to someone else.
Zack actually cared about this!
With an uneasy mood, I knocked on the door of Zack's office. His cold voice came from inside. "Come in."
This voice made me tremble with fear.
I opened the door and went in timidly. The moment I looked up, I saw Zack's cold face. He looked at me and kept silent for a long time.
After a long while, he asked, "Did you tell her?"
I pressed my lips together in silence.
Which meant that I admitted to it.
Zack frowned and suddenly said with a very sad expression, "Em, I won't feel sad about anyone being with you, but you pushed me to someone else... I'm very disappointed."
Zack's tone was very calm, but his expression made me feel distressed.
I explained with fear, "It's because I could see how much she likes you, so... Laurelie flew back from another country to be with you last night. She really likes you. She didn't hesitate for a second before she decided t come back."
"And how's that my business?" Zack said indifferently, "Laurelie has the ability to do whatever she wants. She can live her life like that, but Em, how can you pretend you don't know? Do I need her to be there for me?"
Actually, I knew Laurelie must have struggled in her heart a lot when she got on that chopper the night before.
Because she never thought about who she would approach on her own initiative. About Zack, what she wanted was to let nature take its course instead of being pushy.
Laurelie her own pride, but Zack could not see it.
"I'm sorry. I won't do something like this anymore."
It was my fault and I owed him an apology.
"What's going on here? Apology Committee?"
A plain and bright voice came from the door. I turned around in a hurry and saw Laurelie was looking at us indifferently.
When did she get here? How much did she hear?
Standing beside me, Laurelie said to Zack in an indifferent tone with a smile, "It's not a big deal. If you don't like it, I won't get close to you in the future."
Zack was almost eleven years older than Laurelie. For Laurelie, Zack was indeed more like an old man.
But Zack's face was as cold as ever.
