Ryder broke the silence, "So what? Uncle, you once told me that to achieve something, you've got to pay the price."
"But you can't just play around with the Tim Group. It's not just the Whitfield family's pride and joy; countless people rely on the Tim Group for their livelihoods. You can't gamble it away for your own personal vendetta."
Ryder retorted, "Uncle, are you finally stepping in?"
Jared frowned, "I can't stand by and watch you wreck everything."
Ryder smirked, "So, what's your plan? I'm the CEO of the Tim Group. The final decision is mine."
Jared's voice was tinged with complexity, "You've lost your mind, Ryder. If you stop now, you can keep your position, and I might even give you the shares you've lost. But if you're set on destroying the Tim Group, I can't let you do that."
Ryder exploded, "I want to destroy the Tim Group, obliterate the kingdom you've built with your own hands, everything you cherish and hold dear."
Jared never imagined Ryder would say such things. The calm, cold face he remembered was now twisted in rage.
In Jared's memory, Ryder was the obedient, trouble-free boy in white. But in just a few short years, he had changed beyond recognition.
"Do you hate me that much?" Jared asked calmly.
Ryder's laughter broke through, "Three times, you took her away from me three times. I can't stand it, Uncle. It's just like when we were kids. All my efforts, everything I do, is overshadowed by a single word from you. You destroyed me first! I've lost all hope in this world, but I have to beat you at least once."
A flash of pain crossed Jared's eyes, "I never thought you'd turn out this way. It's my fault for not looking after your mental well-being."
"Enough with your pitying elder act in front of me. We both know you're not really my uncle. Should I call you 'big brother' instead?"
The term 'big brother' made Jared stiffen. But Ryder just laughed, "Yes, you're my big brother, the apple of Mom and Grandpa's eyes, a child born of love. And me? I'm the surplus, the unwanted. If you all don't love me or believe in me, why did you bring me into this world?"
Jared didn't know how to respond. Ryder had changed completely. Jared couldn't pinpoint when the change began. Silently, like weeds after the rain. At first, it's just a hint. But after a storm, when you look back, it's overgrown, spreading far and wide. You never noticed when it got so out of hand. It's terrifying.
Jared finally spoke, "I've wronged you in many ways. If you want the company, it's yours, hoping it can be some small reparation. But the Tim Group is the Whitfield family's legacy. You can't just destroy it."
Ryder sneered, "So, you think the Tim Group is yours to give?"
