Ryder said, "Congrats, Uncle. The Tim Group is back in your hands."
With those words, Ryder turned and walked away.
Jared, throughout all this, hadn't said a word. He just silently watched Ryder's retreating figure.
At that moment, one of the directors couldn't wait any longer and stood up, exclaiming, "Chairman, thank goodness you're back. If you'd been gone any longer, the company would've been run into the ground by that kid. You asked us to support him, and we did, letting him take the chairman's seat. But look what he's done to The Tim Group. It's a relief you're back."
The other shareholders quickly joined in, "Yes, yes, Chairman, it's good you're back."
From then on, everyone knew that the previous shareholder election had been under Jared's control all along. He had paved the way for Ryder's rise, intentionally handing over the CEO position to him.
Agnes was taken aback by this revelation.
Ryder, hearing the scattered discussions inside and outside the meeting room, showed little emotion. However, upon leaving, he caught a glimpse of Agnes. His steps faltered momentarily. But it was just a glance before he left.
The people in the meeting room dispersed. Yet, Jared remained. Agnes walked in. The meeting room was now quiet. For The Tim Group, it was another day of dramatic changes.
Jared stood by the window. Agnes joined him, shoulder to shoulder. From this angle, they could see the street below. It was a high vantage point. The people below were mere shadows. But Agnes did see Ryder. Escorted by a group of security guards, Ryder got into a black sedan and drove off.
Not just Jared, even Agnes, standing before the panoramic window, felt a sense of surrealism. The events that had unfolded seemed like a dream. The CEO position of such a vast business empire as The Tim Group had changed hands as if it were child's play. Yet, it had happened, vividly and decisively.
But Ryder's final move left Agnes filled with doubts. Ryder had been so committed to The Tim Group, his actions over a long time seemed obsessive. Yet, he let go... all too easily. As if everything that happened was within his expectations. This puzzled Agnes.
Agnes gently took Jared's arm, resting her head on his shoulder. "These past few months, after all the twists and turns, it feels like we've come full circle," she said.
Jared glanced at Agnes, replying, "It's not back to the beginning, but to a new starting point."
Agnes sensed something off in Jared's expression. He had retaken the CEO position but showed no sign of happiness. His eyes were clouded with concern, as if he was worried about something. He gazed out at the skyscrapers, his expression stormy.
Agnes rarely saw Jared looking so troubled. But considering Ryder's brief tenure had changed half the company, Jared was now facing a mess that needed cleaning up.
Agnes held Jared's hand, "No matter what happens, I'll always be by your side."
Jared embraced Agnes, "Promise me, no matter what, you won't leave me, okay?"
"I promise you, I swear."
