Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1069

Agnes kept glancing back at Jared. Jared was rushing after her, trying to catch up, but the approaching security guards blocked him inside. He was shouting Agnes' name, yelling loudly. Agnes felt like her heart was about to break. Tears blurred her vision, and Jared's figure gradually disappeared from her view. Ryder was practically dragging Agnes out of the police station.

"Let go of me."

Once they were outside the station, Agnes shook off Ryder's grip. Ryder's expression was icy.

"Agnes, you’re having second thoughts, aren’t you? You can’t. Uncle will face the death penalty."

Ryder was genuinely scared, afraid that Jared had persuaded Agnes. So, he immediately highlighted the severity of the situation, which was almost a threat.

Agnes regained her composure. "Ryder, you don't need to remind me. I'm aware of the situation, and I won't have regrets. You just want that marriage certificate, right? I’ll give it to you, but you better keep your promise."

Ryder seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. "Don't worry. Once we're married, the drug manufacturer's whereabouts will pop up in the police system."

"Then let's meet at the registry office tomorrow at nine."

Agnes didn't say anything else and turned to leave. She didn't get into Ryder's car. Instead, she hopped into a taxi and merged into the traffic.

Ryder felt a weight lift off his shoulders. He was really afraid Agnes would change her mind. Until everything was finalized, he remained cautious. He had brought Agnes here, hoping to exploit her compassion. But he hadn't expected Agnes to be nearly swayed by Jared.

Ryder knew, after all, it was just a marriage certificate. Even if they got married, he wouldn't have Agnes' heart. But still, he obsessively felt that at least there would be an indissoluble bond between them. At least then, he could rightfully call himself Agnes' husband. At least then, he truly had a fair chance to compete with Jared. That would be fair. Perhaps then, everything was just a beginning. But Ryder was already impatiently looking forward to that moment.

Agnes returned to the Pritchard family's mansion. Once back, she cleaned the house from top to bottom. She kept cleaning and tidying until the house was spotless. And by that time, it was pitch dark outside.

Agnes glanced at the wall clock; it was already nine. Only twelve hours left. Agnes' heart sank bit by bit. In reality, she wasn't sure. Success or failure would be determined tomorrow.

After busying herself all day, Agnes was famished. Recalling she had only had a few bites of Ryder's spaghetti, she realized she hadn't eaten much all day. Agnes headed to the kitchen. It had been a while since she last visited here, and the house was practically empty. But when she opened the freezer, there were bags of frozen dumplings.

Agnes was surprised. She hadn't made any dumplings herself, and clearly, these weren't store-bought. Taking out a bag, she noticed the way these dumplings were wrapped; it was unmistakably Jared's handiwork. But when had Jared made them?

Agnes' heart ached in waves. Whenever she argued with Jared, she would run off to the mansion. Was Jared worried she wouldn't have anything to eat? Suddenly, Agnes felt profoundly sad. Jared always considered her needs meticulously.
