Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1100

Agnes felt the urge to get up several times. All she could think about was Jared. Where did these thugs come from? Who were they, and what did they want? Jared was right outside. Could he be the first one they ran into? They all had guns. As soon as they burst through the door, they started firing wildly. Agnes couldn't bear to think about it. Her heart seemed to stop with each gunshot.

But maybe it was her instinct as a journalist. Agnes somehow managed to take a short video on her phone. But then Elton stopped her.

"Are you out of your mind? If they spot us, we're both goners," he whispered.

After all, the phone's light could attract attention. Agnes couldn't make any bold moves. Silently, she put her phone away. All Agnes wanted was to get out of there. But Elton was desperately holding her back.

"Jared should be fine. We didn't hear any shots before they came in," he said, as if reading her mind.

Suddenly, Agnes felt a bit calmer. Yes, the first shots were fired inside the hall. Jared must be okay. It felt like a weight was lifted off her chest. The gunfire continued for a long time. The sky was lit up with fireworks. Inside, it was like a hellish nightmare, while outside, it was as glorious as heaven. The endless evil hid beneath the brilliant fireworks. The gunfight went on. With each shot, it felt like her heart trembled.

But somehow, Jared managed to climb up from the balcony. He was right next to Agnes. She was immediately pulled into another embrace. Looking up, Agnes saw Jared. Tears instantly fell from her eyes. He was alright. And he had come to her side. Jared made a shushing gesture. Agnes didn't make a sound, just clinging tightly to Jared.

Elton saw this and slightly closed his eyes. But at that moment, he couldn't worry about anything else. Instead, he stepped forward, shielding both Agnes and Jared. If bullets were to come their way, he'd be the first to get hit.

Hiding in Jared's embrace, feeling his warmth, Agnes wasn't as scared anymore. Back in Manhattan, Agnes had once experienced a major terrorist attack. People were held at gunpoint, and gunfire was everywhere. Back then, Agnes was truly terrified. Afraid of dying in a foreign land, silently and unnoticed. Feeling her life had been a failure and filled with regrets. But for a moment, Agnes wished Jared was there with her. In the face of such imminent danger, all she wanted was to see Jared one last time. Yet, she was also incredibly relieved that Jared wasn't caught in such a situation.

Agnes never imagined she would face such a horrifying situation again in her life. But now, tucked safely in Jared's embrace, she felt fearless. She purposely tried not to think about anything. Because she couldn't change what was happening. Fear was a product of her imagination. The real horror was the outcome. But Jared's embrace seemed to dispel her fears. She just closed her eyes, holding tightly to Jared's arm, not wanting to think about anything.

Eventually, the gunfire ceased. But the heart-wrenching cries did not.
