Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1109

Reggie was in agony. When he finally opened his eyes again, you could see a mix of sharpness and regret in his gaze. His eldest brother had been killed by terrorists, and those who committed the act on site were mostly taken down by the swift response of Albert's Arms. The mastermind behind it all was the leader of a terrorist organization headquartered in Syria, a behemoth with thousands of members, seemingly invincible.

Soon after, Jared came over. He approached Agnes, clapped her on the shoulder, and said, "Come with me." Agnes noticed something off in Jared's demeanor. It was rare to see him this tense, signaling that something serious had happened.

Quickly following Jared out of Reggie's hospital room, Agnes asked, "You look worried. What happened?"

"Phenix is in trouble," Jared replied, his voice strained.

At those words, Agnes felt her heart twist in panic. "What happened?"

"Attempted suicide by slashing her wrists. She was saved, but she's still obsessed with dying. Kearney's been watching over her, but she's acting completely out of control," Jared explained, his voice heavy.

Rushing to her side, Agnes found Phenix restrained to the bed, her wrists bandaged, the fabric stained with fresh blood. Despite her weakened state, her voice was raspy yet piercing as she demanded, "Let me go. I need to find Sean." Each word felt like a knife to everyone present.

Seeing Phenix like this, Agnes asked, "Why is she tied up?"

Naylor whispered, "Phenix has lost it. She slit her wrists this morning, and thank God, my brother found her in time. Then she almost jumped out of the window. He had no choice but to tie her up to calm her down. The doctor gave her a sedative, but it doesn't seem to be working."

All Agnes could do was sigh at the sight.

Eventually, the sedative kicked in, and Phenix drifted into a deep sleep. Kearney then approached, carefully untying the ropes binding her hands, which were bruised and stained with blood from her struggle. He brought warm water, gently cleaning her wounds with a patience and care that belied his bloodshot eyes and days without rest.

Agnes approached the weary Kearney, suggesting, "Why don't you take a break? I'll watch over her."

After finishing tending to Phenix's hands, Kearney gently stroked her hair, his eyes filled with complex emotions. "I can't let her out of my sight again," he said softly.

Agnes understood Kearney's fears but knew it wasn't sustainable for him to stay by her side 24/7.

Naylor joined in, "Please, take a rest. We'll take turns watching over her. She'll be safe with us."

Perhaps due to sheer exhaustion, Kearney finally headed to the nearby rest room to sleep. Agnes and Elton stayed by her side, their presence together less awkward than expected, perhaps because the recent ordeals had put everything else into perspective. Surviving such a catastrophe brought a sense of being spared by fate, and in the face of life and death, personal grievances seemed trivial.
