Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1110

Elton walked over and said, "Agnes, I only found out about Mr. Pritchard after I came back from abroad. I'm sorry. I've been overseas all these years and didn't keep in touch."

Agnes paused for a moment before responding, "It's been so many years, and it really has nothing to do with you."

Elton fell silent for a while before saying, "Don't be so hostile towards me. I don't harbor any ill intentions. Seeing you happy now is truly comforting for me."

Agnes sighed.

For some reason, the first time she saw Elton, she indeed felt a bit of hostility towards him. It wasn't exactly hostility, more like aversion. This aversion wasn't directed at Elton specifically. It was more about the cruel twists of fate. Agnes just had this gut feeling that their encounter wasn't going to lead to anything good. But since Elton was only back in town for a brief visit, their paths were unlikely to cross again. If she overreacted, it would just seem petty.

Agnes simply said, "Thanks."

She still felt a distance. The boy who once filled her youth now stood before her, feeling like a complete stranger. She didn't know what to say or what not to say. The silence was deafening.

Elton probably felt the tension too. After lingering in the room for a bit, he quietly left.

Agnes remained by Phenix's side. Phenix was deep in sleep. In just a few days, Agnes could hardly recognize him. His face was gaunt, his figure wasted away. What shocked Agnes the most was the amount of grey hair that had appeared in just a short time.

About two hours later, Phenix suddenly woke up. Opening his eyes, he saw Agnes by the bedside and gave her a silent look.
