Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1125

Agnes always loved swinging under the cherry blossom tree in the backyard. Sometimes, Elton would give her such a strong push that it felt like she was flying. Agnes would scream in shock, begging him to stop, but he just wouldn't listen. Just when she was about to lose her temper, he would catch her from behind in a big hug. Then, she would chase him all around the yard, trying to hit him for scaring her.

These memories came back to her like scenes from an old movie, playing one after another in her mind. It all felt like a lifetime ago.

The car smoothly pulled up in front of the mansion. Agnes and Jared stepped out. Elton was waiting at the door. As they walked over, Elton greeted them with a smile, "Welcome, you two. Come on in."

The Whitfield mansion seemed just as Agnes remembered it, even the piano in the corner of the living room. That piano was once her favorite thing in the house. Agnes couldn't play, but Elton was a maestro. By ten, he had reached Grade 10 in piano, but for him, it was just a hobby, and he hadn't touched it in years.

Agnes remembered a cultural exchange at school where various art clubs were competing to see who was best. The bickering and rivalry were endless until Elton, tired of their antics interrupting his basketball time, played a stunning piece, "Flight of the Bumblebee," that left everyone in awe. From then on, he was dubbed the Piano Prince of the school.

But Elton never cared for the title. As his close friends would say, "Nothing in this world could catch Mr. Taylor's eye, except for his darling Agnes." Back then, Elton only had eyes for her, always finding time for Agnes despite his overbearing nature, which, though sometimes suffocating, was incredibly sweet. Agnes used to think she'd definitely marry Elton one day. But fate had other plans, and eventually, they became strangers. Now, she didn't feel regret, just a sense of melancholy.

Elton suggested, "Let's have dinner first. My mom made all your favorites tonight."

As they headed upstairs, Jared was noticeably silent. Agnes took Jared's arm, trying to warm him up to the idea. Jared hadn't been thrilled about visiting the Taylor family, despite his old friendship with Hancock Taylor. But visiting was the polite thing to do.

Hancock Taylor and Riley were already in the dining room, Hancock seated while Riley was busy in the kitchen. As Agnes appeared at the door, Riley, carrying a pot of soup, looked up and froze for a moment before quickly setting down the soup and greeting her warmly, "Agnes, come in. You haven't changed a bit after all these years."

Riley's greeting was as familiar as ever. They had always adored Agnes, treating her like a daughter. But then, a schemer claiming to be pregnant with Elton's child had tried to ascend socially by framing Agnes. Ultimately, it was Elton who had let Agnes down the most.
