Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1127

Riley broke the tension, "Alright, enough already. Mr. Whitfield and Agnes are our honored guests today. They've come all this way to share a meal, so let's not spoil the mood."

Dinner went smoothly.

Riley was exceptionally warm and engaging, constantly bringing up amusing stories from the past.

"I still remember the first time Agnes came over to our house," Riley recounted with a chuckle. "She was just six years old. I told Elton, 'Your little sister is coming over, so you better take good care of her.' Elton was all, 'I hate girls. They're too delicate, always crying, and you can't even roughhouse with them.' He was so annoyed he hid in his room, refusing to come out. But after a good scolding, I dragged him out, and the moment he laid eyes on Agnes, it was as if he was seeing with new eyes. He couldn't look away. Next thing, he's luring Agnes into his room with a toy. I joked to Agnes's mom that we should arrange a childhood betrothal right then and there."

Riley's storytelling was relentless, but as she paused, she felt a bit out of place.

"Look at me, rambling about ancient history," she hurriedly added. "I'm getting old and muddled. Elton's not in the same league as Agnes. Mr. Whitfield, you and Agnes look blissfully happy together, and that's all we could ask for."

Jared assured, "Don't worry, I'll take good care of Agnes for the rest of our lives."

Riley smiled, "Let's eat, Agnes. This is your favorite - garlic butter shrimp. Have as much as you like."

Agnes savored a piece, "Riley, your cooking is as fantastic as ever. I remember stuffing myself every time I came over."

"Enjoy it, eat up."

The meal was filled with laughter and went by quickly.

The housekeeper cleaned up the kitchen.
